freedb Tagger problem

Hello,

I have just installed the latest version of foobar v0.9.4.2 with the freedb tagger component included already.
However i am not able to make it work. I have read the forum and FAQ and freedb.org and component homepage... no luck though.

I can access the freedb.org site, i can ping it, i have included the following in my hosts file:

212.91.252.38       cddb.cddb.com
212.91.252.38       cddb.cddb.org
212.91.252.38       cddb.cddb.net
212.91.252.38       us.cddb.com
212.91.252.38       sc.ca.us.cddb.com
212.91.252.38       sc2.ca.us.cddb.com
212.91.252.38       sj.ca.us.cddb.com
212.91.252.38       sj2.ca.us.cddb.com

I have tried the pre-default freedb2.org address, the freedb.freedb.org and some other mirro sites like uk.freedb.org etc. also http://www.mb.inhouse.co.uk

I have tried foo_freedb2-0.5.1a.zip, foo_freedb2-0.5.2a-20070125.zip. I also installed the 0.8 version of foobar with the "messer" freedb tagger i guess (?). It didn't work either.

When i try to retrieve server list the "Retrieving server list" popup appears and just hangs there - no action at all. Just falls asleep. The console says:
"cddb request via http: http://freedb2.org/~cddb/cddb.cgi?cmd=site...p;proto=6"
If i paste that URL in my browser i get the following response:
"210 OK, site information follows (until terminating `.')
tracktype.org http 80 /~cddb/cddb.cgi S041.44 E147.15 Launceston, Australia
."

The same thing happens when i try to get tags for a song in foobar. The popup appears and just stays hanging. If i take the URL from console and paste it in the browser i get a somehow correct answer:
"211 close matches found
blues 02011601 YOU THE ROCK★ / BAPEMAN THEME
classical 02011601 §õª³ / ¤µ¤Ñ¨ì¥Ã»·
folk 02011601 Albert Belzile / Exil Retour
jazz 02011601 Jazz'n'Tank / Bossadub
misc 02011601 Stone Bone
newage 02011601 KYOKO / MEMORY LANE

rock 02011601 Laura Pausini / Go Let It Out Promo Single
soundtrack 02011601 Highlander - The Final Dimension / Single
."

I kinda running out of ideas what to try.

thanks in advance,
/b

Works fine here. Do you have some firewall which could be blocking foobar2000?

I also suspect your firewall is to blame. Try adding a stream via

File->Add Location...->http://toronto.etn.fm:8100/

then play it. If it works, then the problem is probably not your firewall.

P.S.: Why do you have all those entries in your hosts file?

Windows built in firewall is turned off.
I shut down the firewall app running on my laptop.

It's not working for me but that's because im behind a router or some corporate firewall that blocks these ports. But 80 is open and i connect to freedb using port 80.

I included all the lines in the hosts file just to try it out. I found this solution on freedb site and thought trying it out.
