ProTools and FLAC

Greetings! Thanks for the great resource this site has been over the past few weeks for me... I've learned a lot about codecs and bitrates and such. I'm excited to have such a valuable resource on hand.

The project I have been working on is getting my pastor's sermons recorded via ProTools for putting in an online mp3 podcast. For future use, I'd like to keep flac copies of all of the sermons. I experimented a bit with ripping some of our old recorded-to-audio-cd sermons to flac then converted to mp3 with dbPowerAMP and LAME and was very pleased with the results. However, with ProTools, I can't seem to find any plugins or anything to save directly as a flac file. The best I can do is WAV (which I've decided to use for now), but it would be nice to skip the WAV->FLAC step and just have ProTools save directly to FLAC (or at least run a nifty script like flacattack does when EAC is done saving the WAV).

Any suggestions? Or should I just keep doing it like I am?

Thanks!

ProTools doesn't have output/render plugins.  Just keep doing what you're doing.

It does. For proof, I point you to these plugins:

Then again, the RTAS SDK is closely guarded by Digidesign, so it's very unlikely a free FLAC plugin will be released for ProTools.

Discontinued.  I realise, of course, that it is possible.  Pro Tools SDK = £££££.  Digidesign are a bunch of...  I don't want banned.  I just dislike DD after 6 years of trouble with their products, in both build quality and design.  And the fact that they continually demand money from me.  Grr...

PS, if you are stuck with Pro Tools, I HIGHLY advise getting the FXpansion VSTtoRTAS wrapper.  works perfectly.
