How to convert several .flac-files to .mp3?

Hi everyone!

I have recently encoded about 200 of my original CDs to .flac format and I love it!

But since I have a portable .mp3 flash player I'd like to get my hands on a freeware application where you can easily select several flac-files and have them encoded to .mp3 with lame. It must also read the tags from my flac-files and put them into my new mp3s. (I know foobar can do this but would like another app for only this cause)

I tried All2Lame but can't get the ID3-tags to work.

Thanks for your help!

PS. I tried searching for this but couldn't find anything useful.

I use Batchenc with LAME and Tag.exe.
WavPack 4.31 / LAME 3.98 alpha 3 -V9 -vbr-new

MediaCoder may do what you need.

Frankly I cannot see any reason why you would not use foobar though.

Wow!

Thanks for all your replies!

I kind of like foobar but I hate that you can't get a "slim" play interface lika I can when minimizing WinAMP. See screenshot:

I tried Batchenc but I had problems with the ID3 tags there aswell.

Thanks again!

Where do I find tag.exe?

Use Winamp for playing, and foobar for transcoding, tagging, and general file administration.

If you are transcoding 200 files do you really care what it looks like while doing so, s long as it does a good job?

Tag.exe

Be warned that Tag.exe cannot write ID3v2, so you will need to use ID3v1, APEv2, or Lyrics.

Synthetic Soul:

I mean I don't like foobars interface while playing, NOT encoding

I finally got it to work with a "All2Lame" with the tag.exe you sent me.

Thanks a lot!

I'd like to use Foobar instead of Winamp when playing since I love the "playlist-tabs" - But is there a way to get foobar to look like my screenshot?

I know, that's why I suggested that you continue to use Winamp for playing music.

Edit: I would have thought that the limitation of no ID3v2 would put people off using Tag for this.

If that's not an issue then you may as well use something like:

FLAC --decode --stdout file.flac | LAME -V2 --vbr-new - file.mp3

TAG --fromfile file.flac file.mp3

I use foobar besides many other tools for special operations, but for playback and database handling I use J. River Media Center 11.1.

It has one of the the best databases around, it can rip securely in FLAC format, convert files to LAME 3.97b2 mp3 (on the fly during a portable synch if requested) and also has slim skins like these two:

It is not free (the price is $40), but since it has a 30 day try out period I would recommend trying it.
