reloaded XP-no song list

A dB scan and open directory command fails to find my songs after new XP install.
yes, the mp3s are on the hard drive. I think WM player is playing games?
The new install has taken over my computer in ways that I don't like. Any suggestions? I'm sure this has happened to some of you.

Thanks

Which foobar2000 version?  I know a common problem is that you shouldn't use quotes in the "Restrict directories to" field.

It's appeared all of a sudden- probably a "set preferences and restart foobar to initiate the new settings" thing.
Thanks for the reply.
