mp3 surround

I don't know if it was already posted on this board:

Wavpack Hybrid: one encoder for all scenarios
WavPack -c4.5hx6 (44100Hz & 48000Hz) ≈ 390 kbps + correction file
WavPack -c4hx6 (96000Hz) ≈ 768 kbps + correction file
WavPack -h (SACD & DSD) ≈ 2400 kbps at 2.8224 MHz

Besides, it has already been pointed out that this is no "evolution", multichannel MP3 has been standardized (as MPEG2 audio BC) since MPEG2 was standardized.

OK. Sorry, I'm short in time - performed a little search in the forum, without success. I've just saw this new on a french website. I'm also aware about multichannel abilities of mp3, and I wondered about the possible differences between standard mp3 and the Fhg evolution.

This topic should be deleted, or closed. My apologizes.

As Gabriel already mentioned, this is not multichannel, but surround mp3s.
I think, it is the same as Spatial audio (i.e. Spatial audio attached to mp3) but I can be wrong...

Is the software new? Yes. Is the news new? No, see the [a href="http://www.hydrogenaudio.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=29766&]Software thread[/url]. Is the idea new? No, read the posts above!

@SirGrey it has to be multichannel
because they provide a 5.1 wav sample for encoding purpose.

-----------
Did you give it a try because it show as 2 channel mp3 in winamp and foobar
properties.

i dont have 5.1 speakers can some one try out the samples at there site
http://www.iis.fraunhofer.de/amm/download/...termsofuse.html

and let us know whether they are really 5.1

while playing the file in mp3surround player the progress bar moves and time is
displayed but no audio is heard.

>>@SirGrey it has to be multichannel
There is a big difference between multichannel (i.e. sound that consist of N discrete(at least partially) channels and surround, which means restouration of N chanels from M channels that we already have.
Do you call a Dolby Surround a multichannel ?
If yes, then from this point of view mp3 surround is multichannel too...

Download this PDF it clarly specifies MP3 Surround has 5.1 capabilities
Link:-  http://www.iis.fraunhofer.de/amm/download/mp3_surround.pdf

Code: [Select]
----------------
Software package
----------------
This package contains the following software:

MP3 Surround Commandline Encoder:
%InstallDir%\mp3sCmdlEnc.exe

MP3 Surround Graphical Encoder:
%InstallDir%\mp3sDropEnc.exe

MP3 Surround Commandline Decoder:
%InstallDir%\mp3sDecoder.exe

MP3 Surround Realtime Player:
%InstallDir%\mp3sPlayer.exe

MP3 Surround Decoder Dynamic Link Library (dll):
%InstallDir%\mp3sDecDLL.dll

MP3 Surround Development Kit (SDK):
in %InstallDir%\Developer\

MP3 Surround Winamp Plugin (experimental):
in %InstallDir%\Goodies\in_mp3s.dll

Readme for MP3 Surround Winamp Plugin (experimental):
in %InstallDir%\Goodies\readme_winamp.txt

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

the "mp3scmdlenc.exe" takes following arguments

Code: [Select]
Usage: mp3sEncoder.exe Input.wav Output.mp3

Input.wav:
       This has to be a regular or extensible six channel wave file,
       with following channel sequence:
       Left, Right, Center, LFE, Left Surround, Right Surround.
Output.mp3:
       The destination MP3 Surround file name.

some more info
~~~~~~~~~~
--------------------------------
MP3 Surround Commandline Encoder
--------------------------------
It converts 5.1 channel '.wav'-files to MP3 Surround files.
Features:
---------
    - 16 or 24 bit resolution.
    - 44.1 or 48 kHz sampling rate.
    - Standard wave-format or wave-format extensible.
    - Runs at a total constant bitrate of 192 kbit/s.
Note:
-----
For both formats (standard wave and wave extensible) the channels
have to be interleaved and in the order:
Left Front, Right Front, Center, LFE, Left Surround, Right Surround
The MP3 Surround Encoder does not accept 5.1 channel '.wav'-files
that carry a stereo signal only.
Usage:
------
In a Windows Command shell type:
mp3sEncoder.exe input.wav output.mp3
to convert input.wav to output.mp3
MP3 Surround files can be played in stereo on any
standard MP3 player or software.
------------------------------
MP3 Surround Graphical Encoder
------------------------------
The MP3 Surround Graphical Encoder has the same features and restrictions
as the MP3 Surround Commandline Encoder.
Additionally the MP3 Surround Graphical Encoder supports Multi-File-Encoding.
Usage:
------
Drag and Drop a selection of 5.1 channel '.wav'-files on the
MP3 Surround Graphical Encoder.
Note:
-----
To increase the encoding speed you can disable the rotating animation by
pressing the right mouse key and selecting 'Disable Animation' in the context menu.
--------------------------------
MP3 Surround Commandline Decoder
--------------------------------
It converts MP3 Surround files to 5.1 channel '.wav'-Files.
Features:
---------
    - Writes 5.1 standard wave-format files
    - 16 bit resolution
Note:
-----
The channels are interleaved and in the order:
Left Front, Right Front, Center, LFE, Left Surround, Right Surround
Usage:
------
In a Windows Command shell type:
mp3sDecoder.exe output.mp3 output.wav
to convert output.mp3 to output.wav
The MP3 Surround Decoder produces always six channels.
If the files are 'normal' MP3 files without surround extension,
only 2 of the 5.1 output channels contain the audio signal
and additionally four empty channels are added.
----------------------------
MP3 Surround Realtime Player
----------------------------
It plays MP3 Surround files and standard MP3 stereo files on
your multichannel soundcard.
Start mp3sPlayer and open an MP3 (Surround) file or just
drag it onto the player window.
Make sure:
----------
    - Direct X Version 9.0 or greater is installed
    - A 5.1 capable soundcard is installed and 5.1 speakers are connected
    - The speaker settings are set to '5.1 Surround Sound'
For information how to set the speaker settings use the Windows Help Center.
If the player detects an MP3 Surround file, the 5.1 reproduction
starts automatically. Toggling the '5.1 button' switches between stereo
and 5.1 surround sound.
For standard stereo MP3 files this button is deactivated.
------------------------
MP3 Surround Decoder SDK
------------------------
Following files are included in the Software Developer Kit:
    - %InstallDir%\Developer\make\mp3sDecDemo.dsp
   The MSVC++ 6.0 project file for building an
   MP3 Surround command line decoder.
    - %InstallDir%\Developer\include\mp3sDeclib.h
   Header file for the MP3 Surround library
    - %InstallDir%\Developer\source\demo.c
   Example source code, that demonstrates how to implement
   the MP3 Surround Decoder Library
    - %InstallDir%\Developer\lib\mp3sDecDLL.lib
   MP3 Surround Decoder import library. Contains information
   about the used symbols in mp3sDecDLL.dll
    - %InstallDir%\Developer\Documentation\mp3sdec-interface.pdf
   The MP3 Surround Decoder interface description
The required MP3 Surround Decoder Dynamic Link Library (dll) mp3sDecDLL.dll
can be found in %InstallDir%.
Note: The compiled version of demo.c hase the same functionality as the
      mp3sDecoder.exe.
-----------------------------------------
MP3 Surround Winamp Plugin (experimental)
-----------------------------------------
The MP3 Surround Winamp Plugin can be found in
in %InstallDir%\Goodies\in_mp3s.dll
Please follow the installation instructions in
in %InstallDir%\Goodies\readme_winamp.txt
to find out, how it is integrated and enabled in your Winamp installation.
---------------------------------
MP3 Surround Encoder Restrictions
---------------------------------
    - Accepts 5.1 channel '.wav'-files only.
    - Always runs at a total constant bitrate of 192 kbps.
    - Input files must either have 44.1 kHz or 48 kHz sampling frequency.
I call stereo "multichannel" - unless one of my speakers isn't working!
Sorry - couldn't resist. You're trying to put fixed meanings onto words which aren't that specific or accurate or even meaningful!
Cheers,
David.
