SB AWE 64 Value vs. SB Live! Player/Value

Until the beginning of this year, I was more into gaming than into Audiocoding and I replaced my SB AWE 64 (ISA) with a SB Live. Now my preferences changed and I'm really annyoed of all the up/downspampling and driver (win2k) issues of the emu10k1 and thinking about replacing my new card with my old one again. Would it be an improvment? Buying a new card is not an option...

I wouldn't do it, especially if you still play now and then. The AWE64 will slow down your games. I also had one, BTW, and it's a sought after card... put it on eBay, you'll be surprised. Maybe also sell your Live! there, then you can buy a new card from the money.

It's my brother's (he plays quite a lot, but no need for EAX or whatever) PC, too, so I guess replacing it with an old ISA card is really not an option.
But I have an old Terratec OEM PCI Soundcard (Integra128) in one of my other boxes, do they upsample, too?

SB 64 is an awful card concerning sound quality - very very high noise floor, massive distortion (on the line out ... the hp out isn't even worth mentioning). SBLive! (any of them) is not a very good card, but it's fairly decent, especially with kX Project drivers:
