How good is the DVD Burner LG4163B?

Is it still too new or could you say something about it, whether it is better than the GSA4120B oder GSA4160B or not? Not only in respect to ripping with EAC, but also to everything else...

Would be nice to know

Too new? I didn't even know they released a new burner! I just picked up the GSA4160B a little over a week ago and I'm happy with it so far. I haven't used it so much yet, so don't take that as a complete recommendation. I read in several reviews that the 4160B was superior to the 4120B in almost every way, so I would stick to the 4160B or newer. EAC results seem to be pretty good, though I don't know how it compares to other newer drives. In secure mode, it's getting up into the 30x range with C2 enabled. Actually, I could care less about the extraction speed now, as I just finished this summer ripping about 600 CD's with my old Plextor 24x CD burner. It only managed about 18-20x in secure mode, so anything is an improvement over that. Luckily, I ripped everything to FLAC so I won't be doing that again, only a few CD's at a time so speed isn't really important. Accuracy, lack of glitches and no jitter are much more important. Hopefully the LG is good in these, but I don't have enough experience yet. And I've only done a couple test rips.

What's new in the 4163B? I hope faster DL burning, maybe 4x? That's the only drawback to the 4160B, it burns DL at only 2.4x. Of course, with the cost of DL media in Finland (close to 30 usd each), I won't be buying any anytime soon...

In reality, I was going to get the Plextor DVD burner, either the 712A (single layer only) or 716A. DL wasn't a deciding factor, price and availability were. Unfortunately, neither burner was available here when the money was in the pocket. So I went for the LG which was next on my list. I've also heard a lot of good things about the NEC 3500A burner, and they are really cheap. I may buy one of those for my game machine...
