Winamp 2 to playback AAC streams

Hi,

is there a way to make Winamp 2 (Version 2.81 or 2.96) play AACplus (HE-AAC) streams from internet radio stations?

If I open the link

http://www.somafm.com/aacdemo.pls

in my Winamp-Playlist, it will start to do something (changing the title to [ICY 200 OK]) but nothing else will happen.

Do I need some special plugin for that? Currently I have in_mp4.dll from rarewares.org.

Or is Winamp 2 not capable at all to manage AAC streams? Some enlightment would be nice...

You need the in_mp3 decoder from Winamp 5.04 or greater.  Just install Winamp 5.05 lite, which is exactly the same as Winamp 2.X.

great, that works.

And even in Winamp 2.81! I don't like the 5.x at all, the older 2.x is quite perfect for me.

Well, you just need to copy the in_mp3.dll from 5 to 2 and it will do the job.

However, for some reason "Direct Sound output" has to be active, otherwise you just get noise. But this is very easy to solve though.

Thanks for your help!

Are U sure that the in_mp3 plugin can play the SBR part of
HE-AAC files?

Of raw AAC files or streams.  MP4/M4A isn't currently supported.

no, I'm not sure about it.
However sure is the fact that this plugin versoin will playback the AAC streams of popular radio stations, which support HE-AAC and that's quite good.
I mean, I hear at least something and that's a success compared to muted speakers
