iTunes 4.5 Audio Formats need retesting?

Will the new iTunes 4.5 audio codecs for BOTH AAC and MP3 be re-tested anytime soon to see if they have improved in quality? I am not sure about the iTunes MP3 encoder if that has been improved, does anyone know for sure? Apple claims improvement in AAC encoding on their website for iTunes 4.5 though.

rjamorim: Any plans for adding both of these in upcoming test suites?

Thanks.

Lossless Encoder
Using the Apple Lossless Encoder, you can import CDs into iTunes with sound indistinguishable from the original recording but at aobut half the size.

harashin: Its AAC encoder seems to be updated
rjamorim: Hehe, I would be rather pissed if I started my test today. It would have been born outdated

I cant's speak for Roberto, but I guess that means 'yes' in case of aac.

Yes, I will test the new AAC encoder, for sure.

In a sense, it was good that the test got postponed so much

And no, I won't test the Apple MP3 encoder. Maybe someone else will. I will now conduce the Multiformat test, the dial-up test, and then I'll retire from test conducing for the foreseeable future.

which is a shame, but understandable.

On the surface iTunes 4.5 doesn't yet support VBR AAC which is a shame.

However on the interior it does support AAC VBR or rather MP4 VBR recorded with Nero.  Unfortuntatly the iPod doesn't.  Another interesting fact is that an Ogg icon is included in the iTunes 4.5 .exe hopefully this could mean good things are yet to come.

It's similar to the following icons, with "OGG" instead of AAC / MP3 :

Wavpack Hybrid: one encoder for all scenarios
WavPack -c4.5hx6 (44100Hz & 48000Hz) ≈ 390 kbps + correction file
WavPack -c4hx6 (96000Hz) ≈ 768 kbps + correction file
WavPack -h (SACD & DSD) ≈ 2400 kbps at 2.8224 MHz

Ogg is a file container so it could probably mean an audio codec that can be put into?  FLAC or Vorbis?  The common name for Vorbis is OGG so.....?

Anyway, I'm stunned by it all

EDIT:  We now know that Apple lossless is not FLAC.
