Why/How do protected itunes files play in FB2k?

I got some free songs off itunes with the Pepsi stuff and I was just playing around seeing what other players played them (I was very sure that nothing would because of DRM).  So I drag and drop them onto foobar and they play just fine  .  I can even convert them to wavs just fine.

I'm going to guess that foobar is using quicktime libraries or it's keys or something, because I tried playing songs on a virgin windows install and it was a no go.  Is it?  How is this happening?

I'm running foobar2000 0.8 with stock decoders (well and an shn plugin but that shouldn't effect this).

Peter uses some library that has basic m4p support.  It works pretty well, but there are still issues.

Personally I'd just remove the DRM and put them into m4a files so I didn't have to worry about it, but thats just me.

You should do that regardless.  If you have to un-install and re-install iTunes for some reason your M4P files will be rendered useless by iTunes DRM.
