Compressed .wav

Hi guys and gals,

This seems to be a place 'of knowledge'...  and I'm asking you for some help...

Can anyone here...  tell me, link me to an example... send me the magic potion...  or perhaps hand me a snippet of code, that can be used in VB or Clarion, to the solution of 'how to' display the graphics of alaw, ulaw or even Dialogic vox files.

While it's not that hard to display the graphics of a regular 'waveform' in an application... ( I've been Googling and searching all over The Net... )  compressed waveforms are an unknown and unexplored area for me.

You will need to decode the compressed stream first in order to access the PCM data.
I'm sure VB can use the installed ACM codecs to achieve this.

"To understand me, you'll have to swallow a world." Or maybe your words.

Thanks for your reaction, Dev0..

Using an ACM was my first thought also, but I seem to miss something essential...  couldn't find anything helpfull in VB... or on the net..
I guess sometimes things are too obvious...??

Many audio apps carry the appropriate codecs, therefor I figured 'the formula' to convert the audio ( the graphical display ) ought to be 'common knowledge'...

Who can point me into the right direction...??

Any help is highly appreciated !!
