Newbie, looking for more info

Hi,

I'm new to this audio encoding era, all I know is MP3, LAME and that's about it. Any suggestion where I can learn more about the different encoding methods such as AAC, etc.?

thanks.

If you have the patience to browse through the various threads on this board, you will probably learn more than you are likely to anywhere else!!

Hehe, john33 is right I think I learnt more here than I did messing around with MP3's since 1995. Back then it was like WOW! that really does sound good, now its more about learning to make it sound even better and faster (remember l3enc for DOS??). Since being on this board I have learnt to appreciate the many efforts of the open source community in the search for better quality at an acceptable bitrate. I also like to thank the efforts of the many coders within this community who make LAME, MusePack (only 3 that I know of ), OGG and AAC all possible!

Cheers

I would do that, except there is such vast amount of information here, and I don't even know where to begin.
