16 bit 4 times oversampling DAC

I have seen a post similar to this, but it doesn't contain exactly the information I want.

I have the next hardware:

- Onboard ALC650 with SPDIF-OUT.
- Sound Blaster Live!
- An old AKAI amplifier with SPDIF-IN and a DAC with 16 bit 4 times oversampling.

I am thinking on one of these two configurations:

- ALC650 connected with SPDIF to amplifier, but I dont know if the DAC of my amplifier is good or not.
- Sound Blaster Live! + KX drivers connected to the analog VCR-IN of my amplifier.

What do you recommend me?

Thanks!

I have never been particularly impressed with the analog output quality of the Live! cards.
I'd suggest you try feeding a digital out (from the ALC650 or the Live!) into the amp.

You can always connect both A & D connectors and switch back and forth to see which sounds better to you.

Thank you

I will try

The rear out has better quality than the front out on the Live! cards. Connect both analog & digital & see which sounds better.

The problem is that the price of an optical cable is 30€!!! Too expensive for a test... :'(

Search again. Go to an electronics parts store for example; I got 5m of good optical cable for 9euro there - in a hifi shop 2m would cost twice that!

Yeahhh I managed to get 3 meters of optical cable!!!

I can hear the difference, it is not a big improvement, but I think that now it sound sharper, so I am happy
