The first one that was released here was 0.17 I think, but I don't think you'll be able to find it anymore.

The first version I tried was 0.23 but I couldn't really use Foobar until 0.25 because of the Monkey's Audio Support. I remember I asked for support for APLs on December 16 , and didn't get it until like July (Thanks to Case's plugin).....

It looked exactly like foobar looks today (with the old look). except there wasn't a 'Components' menu.

It is pretty amazing how far fb2k has come... In the last 9 months it's gone from "meh, whatever" to "does everything except heal the terminally ill"

Really is quite an amazing thing... a few months ago I used winamp and it's not often something comes along that causes me to switch programs for a function I use daily, esp. music listening.

What's really funny is how this program really converted me to the simplicity of it's nature. Shit, when Peter changed the GUI recently I realized how much of it I really hadn't needed... and even felt the want to go back to the old GUI. Go figure. And I actually though I wanted a seekbar.

Okay... stupid newbie question now. What's an APL?

I think .apl = .ape = audio monkey files (aka compression for those rich enough to have huge harddrives and expensive speakers  )

now I get the "ape" thing, but I don't know what "apl" stands for...

Some people rip the whole CD as only one WAV or APE file, along with CUE file which defines the gaps of every track. With MakeAPL tool(a tool come with Monkey's Audio) you can split the whole file into single tracks. foobar2000 is terrific that it can directly play CUE or APL files, and forthermore, it can convert the whole audio file into other format such as mp3, mpc...with CUE or APL file.

The GUI updates he's made are what made me finally switch.  I just could not use Foobar until he added that scrollbar. Plus, it now has a nicely layed out and custimizable toolbar which has made my Foobar experience so much better.  I only wish he would give the option for a small volume bar too so that I could go compleately without touching the keyboard

You do know windows has a built in volume control right next to the foobar systray icon  .  And it is very easy to use your mouse to change it... (w00t)  And unlike the foobar volume control, that one changes the volume instantly.

I much prefer the STFU plugin from the older version I am still using - will give the 0.7 branch another look though to see what has changed, last I DLed was beta30 and I am aware of /e option now for unzipping the files that was holding me off as well.

the oldest (and first) build I used was probably around 0.25 if memory serves - caught my interest then but lacked just a few key features at the time.

First time i gave foobar a try was with something like 0.38 or 0.43...
But started to love it from 0.5x series
Now at 0.7 things keep getting better all the time

[01:02] <zZzZzZz> if i ever start having fun with player other than winamp, it will have to be my own sick creation
[01:05] <zZzZzZz> im now having fun doing bloody things with wa2 plugin specs
[01:06] <rc55> When are you stopping wa2 work?
[01:06] <zZzZzZz> well
[01:06] <zZzZzZz> im bored
[01:06] <zZzZzZz> i see that a lot of historical fuckups could have been prevented if better wa2 input SDK existed
[01:06] <zZzZzZz> so im doing one
[01:07] <zZzZzZz> i dont think nullsoft will adapt it, i dont care
[01:07] <zZzZzZz> its for third-party developers anyway

November 30, 2002

[00:31] <zZzZzZz> blahaha
[00:32] <zZzZzZz> im losing interest in winamp
[00:32] <Trelane> Winamp 4 ever
[00:32] <Trelane> or something...
[00:32] <zZzZzZz> i understand you
[00:32] <zZzZzZz> that happens

[00:47] <zZzZzZz> i've been thinking about bastardizing wa2 in/out specs, but i think its not really worth it
[00:47] <zZzZzZz> would be less painful to make a new media player instead

December 1, 2002

[21:26] <zZzZzZz> at some point i said that "making new player would be less painful than messing around wa2 input specs"
[21:26] <zZzZzZz> combine this with lack of new winamp-related binaries in last days and you've got the answer
[21:27] <Case> oh no, you are making KewlPlayer
[21:27] <zZzZzZz> dont worry
[21:27] <zZzZzZz> i'm not releasing it
[21:27] <zZzZzZz> im making it for my own bloody fun and for technical experiments
[21:28] <zZzZzZz> can finally design my own plugin/component specs instead of using specs designed by someone else
[21:28] <zZzZzZz> which i F###ING enjoy after having fought winamp for years
[21:28] <Case> :)
[21:29] <Garf> lol
[21:29] <zZzZzZz> amazing that its already capable of most of things i want it to do (started the fun on friday)
[21:30] <zZzZzZz> playing SPCs from a rar file right now

[21:34] <zZzZzZz> anyway, this is fun
[21:35] <zZzZzZz> nice playback core free of wa2 BS and wa3's gay problems (still no DSP tho but im not really into implementing that)
[21:35] <zZzZzZz> no more gay win9x support, everything is unicode

[21:37] <zZzZzZz> this thing is highly modular

[00:30] <cd-rw_org> What is the player going to be called?
[00:30] <zZzZzZz> foobar2000.
[00:31] <JensRex> Foobar2000?
[00:31] <zZzZzZz> foobar2000.
[00:31] <ath> foobar2000?
[00:32] <JensRex> I like the idea of not trying to come up with a fancy "cool" smartass name.
[00:32] <JensRex> Like "Tha Playa" from DivX.
[00:32] <zZzZzZz> i like the idea of trying not to come up with a fancy "cool" smartass icon.
[00:32] <zZzZzZz> :B
[00:33] <JensRex> That too :)
[00:33] <JensRex> Any particular reason why it isn't plugin based?
[00:34] <JensRex> It's going to be huge, supporting all those formats.
[00:34] <zZzZzZz> i have mp3/vorbis/mpc/mod/spc already
[00:34] <zZzZzZz> and somehow its not huge
[00:34] <zZzZzZz> plugins are considered

[00:45] <zZzZzZz> ok, ftp updated with 0.03a
[00:45] <zZzZzZz> added ctrl+a / del / up/down cursors
[00:45] <zZzZzZz> + home / end

[00:46] <zZzZzZz> this will be all over HA in a few days prolly seeing how popular it gets after one day
