Do I need waterproof headphones for running?

Do I need waterproof headphones for running?

Just recently, I decided to run every morning before work and currently, I use my iPhone and the earphones that come with it. I’m just worried because I feel like I’m sweating too much and as far as I know, the Apple earphones aren’t waterproof, or does it matter? I’m just running anyway and I don’t plan to submerge in water.

Aside from that, the wires bother me. I saw a few wireless headphones from a list I found online and considering the ones under £30. I also saw a similar list here. I’m not sure though if these are waterproof but if these are meant for running then I guess these can handle sweat. I’m a newbie here and I’m hoping for your suggestions and thoughts. Thanks!

I really like the design of the earpods. I don't think you'll have any trouble with them just for running. I also don't like the cords, so I bought the Sony SBH70. The design is very similar to the Apple "pods", down to the position of the 3 holes, and they are advertised as water resistant. I haven't taken them for a run yet, though. If it's any help, I used to run regularly for a few years with cheap ebay copies of the previous Apple earphones, and never had a problem with them either.

I do run at night though, so usually I don't sweat much. If you like the Apple earpods' fit, you'll like the sbh70 too. I'm really digging them, they're very comfortable, open so you can hear outside sounds which is very helpful for running outside, and for calls and such you can just hang them from your neck when not using them, they will vibrate so you don't have to have the buds on. Price might be a bit out of your range though. I'd be wary of the super-cheap ones though, one Amazon review showed a burned lithium battery for one of those cheap bluetooth earphones.

Thank you so much Andy! Well I guess, I have to invest in a good pair. :)

I own 4 sets of ~$20 no-name bluetooth headphones for running, and I suggest one just getting into this does just that.  Running headphones aren't like office headphones in that one doesn't care about audio quality nearly as much as the precise details of fit, how the cord lays, and where (exactly) you are touched by the system.  A very small change in fit can be the difference between unnoticed and the most annoying bounce ever.

I don't care if I sweat-kill one of these or lose a battery.  at 1/10th the cost of Beats and 1/4-1/5th the cost of Sony It Just Doesn't Matter to me.

Creature of habit.

I use the same earphones at work and at home now, the SBH70 are very versatile. Even in the car, you can just hang them around your neck and they will vibrate when a call comes in, you don't need to cover your ear(s) all the time. I agree that for running sound quality is not the top priority, but fit and comfort, but I use them for everything now, including voice calls. I'm not 100% sure, but I can't find any cheapo BT headphones that offer HFP 1.6 with wideband audio (usually marketed as HD Voice). In any case, the Sony SBH20 are cheap enough right now ($30 on Amazon). It is a clip-on adapter and I used it for running with the cheapo iPhone bud copies I mentioned above, which themselves came with a similar but crappy BT adapter. The earphones that come with the SBH20 are in-ear with some isolation, the ones with the rubber buds that go deeper in the canal. With an adapter you may need a special short-cord pair of earbuds though.
