Error when unpacking ape file with cue sheet

I'm trying to use foobar2000 for the first time to split the individual tracks from an ape file.  The foobar2000 version is 1.3.8 and I have the APE component installed.  I have an ape and cue file for the album in question which was processed by someone else using ExactAudioCopy.  When I open the cue sheet an error box pops up in foobar and for each track gives the following message:

Unable to open item for playback (Object not found):
"E:\David music\Paul McCartney\1970.McCartney\Paul McCartney - McCartney.cue" / index: 1

All tracks appear in the foobar2000 gui, but when I right click and try to play a particular track the same error box pops up.

This is my first time dealing with ape files so any help on getting the tracks split would be appreciated.

Thanks

The CUE file references various WAV files, one for each track. Instead it should reference the APE file and the INDEX entries should refer to the time offsets within this file. As it is you cannot use the CUE file to decode parts of the APE file for playback or conversion.

My intent is not to play the tracks from the APE.  I should have been more clear, but what I meant was that foobar gives you the ability to play the tracks (from right click menu) when you load the ape.  What I wanted to do was extract each track from the ape as an individual wav so I could burn them to CD.  I was unable to do that with foobar.  Since I initially posted, however, I installed CUETools and that program is working much easier for me in extracting the individual tracks.

which was processed by someone else

Sure it was. Eight years and a week ago, using a "PLEXTOR DVDR  PX-800A  Adapter: 3  ID: 0", right?

Took me a minute to find the log and the cue.

Ehhh if you say so, but what does that have to do with anything?
