Trying to make a "not on ipod" playlist

Hi,

I was trying to emulate a smart playlist I used to use on itunes, which I dubbed my "not on iPod" playlist because my iPod is not big enough to hold all of my music. The playlist, of course, simply subtracted the songs I had on my main iPod playlist (that i synced with) from my library, resulting in a list of music I can keep track of not being on my ipod.

So I've created an iPod playlist but would like to know if you can do what I am asking with autoplaylists or something. I realize I could do something kinda crazy like add an id3 tag to all my music in the ipod playlist, and then make an autoplaylist that has my library minus the tracks with that tag, but I would rather avoid that.

Any tips?

Probably not the best solution but one way is to add the entries from your iPod playlist to a playlist containing all the files in your media library. Then perform the Remove Duplicates command which should leave only those files not on your iPod. Obviously this would have to be done everytime you updated your iPod, but I can't think of an automatic solution that wouldn't involve adding more tags to your files.

I have often wanted a "is on playlist" type thing in the scripting. Then things like this could be done.

Could be semi-automated if moving files to separate directory when putting on iPod, and using an automatic playlist on the main directory. You might have to move them back and forth manually (with File Operations) though.

Not a bad idea. May settle for this. Thanks for all the replies people.

Use some tag with 0/1 value. Like %OnIpod% or something.
