[TOS #8/NECROPOST] Re: Why do people use WMA? How does it compare to other codecs? etc.

I use FLAC as a lossless CODEC.  There isn't all that many CODECs that can save any more space than FLAC L8, and some take a lot more CPU cycles to decode on playback.  FLAC has great tagging opportunity and has a reasonably good compatibility.
I use Reaper DAW and FLAC is the only lossless compressed CODEC supported, that or LPCM WAV.

I do have to encode to WMA 320 kbps CBR for use on a standalone HiFi CD player.  MP3 sounded more muddled and congested.  Unfortunately, no lossless or even LPCM WAV option was available.  Massive oversight, but hey.

Whether using dBpowerAMP or Windows own WMA Encoder, the results sound the same to me, although are not bit identical.
