Post by: CrowRabbit on 2016-12-03 16:35:58
Local Video Player (foo_video)

I'm Japanese student.
Sorry, I'm not good at English.
Don't expect too much, because I have did the programming for the first time.

foo_video is Video plugin that able to play [.mp4] and [.mkv] video file on foobar2000.

At the moment foo_video is still in the experiment stage.
Use at your own risk.

One day I will upload this plugin in not here but my server.

This sounds great! But so far, every video I tried gives me this error on console:
[01:14:49] foo_video[Error]:OpenFile failed

(The audio does play, though)

Installing the DirectShow Codec fixed it! It is early days but playing videos with foobar has been a dream, hope you will develop this plugin more. Thank you!

Is there any way to force the plugin to load any other video format?

Oh, and it seems the option "Always on top" turns off when another video is loaded. And currently there is no keyboard control when the video window is selected.

It would also be fantastic if I could integrate the video window into the Foobar2000 panels.

こんにちは!

By the way, what video format do you want to see?

Preferably anything DirectShow can handle. I’m not sure if you know, but very long ago someone made a DirectShow input component for Foobar2000 called foo_input_ds. It’s still working and it accepts basically anything you give it. Of course, it doesn’t show any video. This component allows you in its options to include formats you want to open.

I personally need AVI, AVS and MPG formats. foo_video already opens AVI, but you have to rename the file to MKV.

A couple of bugs I discovered:

1. If a MKV/MP4 file has chapters, Foobar2000 imports them as separate tracks. foo_video plays them, but each entry from the start.

2. Full screen mode on a secondary screen produces a white artifact on the primary screen.

Is there any method to use the LAV-filters from foo_youtube (http://fy.3dyd.com/download/) in portable mode?

Sorry for the late reply.

こんにちは!
foo_video use DirectShow technology. So, you can watch video, if codec supports its format.
foo_video's next major version will experimentally unlock AVI and MPG formats.

Thank you for the fixes, the plugin is very functional for me already!

A small request about the window size setting: the minimum size for the window is 320x240, but it seems to adjusts the size/ratio based on video.

So a video with 4:3 ratio will make a total size window of: 306x263. but a video with 16:9 will make a window size of: 306x233. (See images below)

4:3: (http://i.imgur.com/Xx5FrXC.png)
16:9: (http://i.imgur.com/0R5W9WY.png)

It would be great if the video could always be contained inside the window rather than adjusting the size based on the video. Additionally, it would be great to be able to resize the video to be smaller than 320x240 as a minimum (for example, 200x200 so it can be placed on top of my cover art plugin, to play the video if available).

とにかく、ありがとうm(_ _)m

Wow, I've been waiting for it for ages, arigatou! The only thing I miss is "always start in fullscreen" feature.

And the minor request is not to close and reopen video window - it causes long gaps in playlists consisting of music videos.

Anyway thank you for this truly amazing plugin.

Thank you for this update! The frame no longer resizes--and keeping the image window open was a great improvement!

A small suggestion--is it possible to remove the top bar from the video window? The one that has the Chimera(EVR) and the minimize/maximize/close buttons.

Thanks again :)

A small request... instead of using the esc key
Is it possible for the video window to follow foobar2000 window status.
e.g if foobar2000 is minimized to minimize the video window also , and maximized when foobar2000 gets maximized.

Hi!, this is fantastic addition to player. I also was waiting for it.

It all works out of the box. But i have small question

Is it possible to render video in UI Element of foobar? I have using Layout Editing Mode and added many Ui elements and Tabs. It would be nice if i could also add "Video element" where player would be rendereing video. Not a priority but nice feature. Its more for playing various music videoclips than a movie.

Additionally, it would be nice to foobar would scan for videos in media library.

And probably the hardest task, to show thumbnail or preview in ui element ("Video Element") of highlighted item, just like album art. Lowest priority but still nice enhancement for completness :)

Thanks.

Hello,

I have recently installed this component but am having some difficulties getting it to function correctly.

After installing, and setting VLC player as default video player, all video files i.e avi / mkv give me the error message : Unsupported audio track format.

Any ideas?

The foo_video's error message is "foo_video[<Message Type>]:<Message>".

foobar2000(above v0.9.6) is able to play mkv(Matroska)'s audio.

Thank you very much for your quickest answer.
The whole content of console is:

Components loaded in: 0:00.054666
Configuration read in: 0:00.003612
Watching: D:\My Music
Watching: C:\Users\Public\Music
User Interface initialized in: 0:00.040402
foo_video[Info]:thread_created_EVR
foo_video[Error]:CoInitialize failed
foo_upnp: succesfully loaded file C:\Users\Mihai-W7\AppData\Roaming\foobar2000\foo_upnp.xml
foo_upnp: initialized in 0.000s
Startup time : 0:00.704931

The problem is that is not playing any video. In fact there is no player window at all.
I tried with local stored avi file and foobar2000 was "Unsupported file format"
I tried with an mkv remote file (my foobar2000 can play remote audio files served by a Bubbleserver) and only the audio part was played.
I'm sure that my Bubbleserver serve audio and video files played with Bubble client in android and audio files with foobar2000.
What I'm doing wrong?

[.avi] is not foobar2000 supported. (Wait for 3rd Party Plugin)

I also have problem with this component. It reads only files, that are supported without it. I mean - if I have video file, from which I can play sound even if I don't have foo_video installed, then with foo_video I have sound and the floating window with video. But if there is file that is not playable without foo_video (no sound is coming - only playback error is thrown) , then with foo_video installed it is still not playable - there is no sound, no video window, only playback error thrown. Files that ca be open are .mkv and .mp4 files. Files that can not be open are .avi, .mpg, .mpeg, .m2v, .mts, .m2t, .ts, .vob.  Changing from EVR to madVR mostly doesn't change anything (only in one case something changes - see below). I've made some serious investigation on it, please have a look:

Yes - I see that "Your PC is not install Directshow_Codec. You should install LAV_Filters or ffdshow" but it is bullshit - I always install K-Lite Codec Pack (Mega), with Media Player Classic and default selection of LAV/ffdshow DirectShow filters. ALWAYS. It is installed even now, and a while ago I even updated it to latest version (KLCP 13.6.5 Mega).
For this file changing to madVR allows to see video window and the output of console is:

My PC specification:
Windows 7 x64 Polish (MSDNAA sourced) with all security fixes and most important updates installed (except .NET 4.7, GWX/CEIP/other MS spyware).
Hardware:
- nVidia 1050 Ti with not the latest drivers (382.05)
- ESI Juli@ soundcard with rather latest drivers v 1.21 (2 or 3 years old)
Software:
- foobar 1.3.17 beta 1 (but problems existed in 1.3.15 and 1.3.16 - just didn't have time before to investigate it)
- K-Lite Codec Pack, with Media Player Classic x64 1.7.13.1124 and nearly default codecs/filters selection (I deselect ACM audio codecs). During KLCP installation hardware decoding for video is chosen (DXVA2 Native Copy-Back).

I would welcome any suggestion why DirectShow is not detected by foo_video and it seems that also by foo_input_ds (which is unable to print out such detailed debug).

I would try to completely  remove all this K-Lite Codec Pack and simply install LAV (https://github.com/Nevcairiel/LAVFilters/releases) and standalone MPC (https://mpc-hc.org/).

What I did a while ago was reinstalling KLCP again, choosing to install both x86 and x64 players - to ensure that installer installed this time both 32bit and 64bit decoders - as I suppose foobar can handle only 32bit ones. I tested whole my video collection in MPC x86 and all files were played back correctly - so I assume 32bit decoders were indeed installed. But... even after PC was restarted audio was not played in foobar from all these .avi, .mpg, .mpeg, .m2v, .vob, .ts files. Neither with foo_input_ds nor in foo_video. The only thing that changed, what that mkv file with Windowlicker now opens video window when EVR is selected in Chimera/foo_video (or to be exact - when madVR is deselected).

I think I will try your suggestion Rollin - but tomorrow or in Monday. I will then report back if this helps.

Ah, my doubleposting... I am always posting when I think I'm on a dead end, but after few mins I mostly have some new idea how to dig the problem... What I did this time was just loading both foo_video AND foo_input_ds . Results are interesting. What has changed:
- now AVI files are playable (audio part - the only one that I need in foobar). Console output:
Opening track for playback: "M:\Mvids\Tool\Tool – Sober.avi"

foo_video[Debug]:Directshow Ready-2147220969
Audioscrobbler: Skipping track due to missing artist or title info.

- now VOB files are playable (audio part - the only one that I need in foobar). Console output:
Opening track for playback: "M:\Mvids\Mvids VOB, MDVD-R\Tom & Joyce Hoze – Un Regard, Un Squirre\VIDEO_TS\VTS_01_1.VOB"
COMMENT: yes - this is the only thing that I get in console

- now TS files can be only opened, but they do not play. Console output:[/b]
Opening track for playback: "M:\Mvids\Kelly Clarkson – Behind These Hazel Eyes 1080i.ts"
COMMENT: yes - this is the only thing that I get in console. File opens without error, but seekbar just flashes in a single second through the whole file and no sound is generated.

Rest stays without a change...

Heh, the answer is posted here:
https://hydrogenaud.io/index.php/topic,59902.msg947514.html#msg947514

The reason was too many DLLs loaded to foobar's memory and some of dependencies required for extraction of audio from video files using source filters were simply not loading. This happened after series of components updates (some became splitted into several dlls) and adding few more input dlls. Now I am removing them from foobar permanently.
Title: Re: Local Video Player (foo_video)
Post by: EpicForever on 2017-11-12 10:53:17
My final post:
foo_video is very picky at file extensions. Despite mpg and mpeg are basically the same, only mpg can be opened. Despite m2v is very close to them (contains the same streams in I think nearly the same way muxed) it also can not be opened. Also .VOB files can not be opened (no video stream) no matter of foo_input_ds is installed or not. For example with foo_input_ds, foo_video was able to open video stream for most of my .avi files (those not hanging foobar and not throwing errors about broken frames in the beginning)
foo_video unfortunately cuts out several initial frames from most of my mvids, especially those .mpg ones. That causes visible lack of A/V synchronization.
Anyway - due to other reasons (stated in https://hydrogenaud.io/index.php/topic,59902 ) I remuxed all my .avi, and .mpg/mpeg/m2v videos to .mkv using mkvmerge and a command line... Now I have all video streams, however with that reported cut of opening video frames and A/V sync problems.

I see 2 suggestions:
- making extensions list editable for end user, with notice that any crashes after applying changes here are assumed as user fault
- editing this in code for all possible extensions of certain container (like: .mpg = .mpg; .mpeg; .m2v; .m1v; .ps; .m2p).

I still use this plugin every day, thank you so much!

I'm having a small issue with some videos that have audio right away--the audio will play for a little and then the video starts, causing a small pause in the audio. I've tested disabling the video player and that fixes it, so it's definitely the video player that's causing this behavior. I'm using LAV.

Is there anything to be done about this? I tried to use madVR (which made it worse) and adjust the enhanced video renderer settings (it doesn't seem to change anything).

Here's an example of a video file that's affected: 【FGO】コスモスインザロストベルトopening【4k動画】%20(720p).mp4?dl=0 (https://www.dropbox.com/s/p5d7yigsxpzmp9i/%E3%80%90FGO%E3%80%91%E3%82%B3%E3%82%B9%E3%83%A2%E3%82%B9%E3%82%A4%E3%83%B3%E3%82%B6%E3%83%AD%E3%82%B9%E3%83%88%E3%83%99%E3%83%AB%E3%83%88opening%E3%80%904k%E5%8B%95%E7%94%BB%E3%80%91%20%28720p%29.mp4?dl=0)

When I play this, the first 2 notes of the string opening will play, then a short break, then the rest. It's rarely the case that a file starts this strongly so it's not a big deal, but I thought I'd bring it up anyway in case a solution can be found.

Thank you for this update! The frame no longer resizes--and keeping the image window open was a great improvement!

A small suggestion--is it possible to remove the top bar from the video window? The one that has the Chimera(EVR) and the minimize/maximize/close buttons.

yes thanks I already did that, but wherwe on the GUI will I see the videos?
In the same boxes as the music?
Currently I have a Genre Box, Artist Box, and Albums Box as shown below.
Do I have to add a new Movies Box somehow?

1. You should install LAV Filters.

2. Box doesn't matter.
You can watch when you play videos( .mp4, .mkv ...) with foobar2000.

Yes, they should show up as '?' or 'unknown' because most videos have no %genre% or %artist% tags. I'm not even using this component but I can add video folders and see them in the library (MP4 specifically, perhaps not all file-types)

I have over 20000 Albums and over 5000 ripped movies.I like them to be organized within FOOBAR as the music is organized.
Anyways I figured it out myself. All you have to do is add an Artist to the video.
If there is NO Artist in the metadata for the video file, then foobar will NOT show it in the GUI.

I hope this helps someone as it helped me!

Thanks for your mature response, I already figured it out, the video will NOT show up if there is no Artist in the metadata for the video.  Also the videos cannot be AVI, mpg, etc, or anything other then MP4 or mkv.  I converted all my videos to mkv and added an artist to the videos and now they are showing up.

foobar2000(default) is not supported AVI and mpg(MPEG-1).
Chimera is not components which add unsupported audio-format of foobar2000.

I think it was a good choice to convert to mkv from AVI or MPG.
Because, AVI and MPG is old video-format.

Love the component, thanks for making it.

It seems to have a bug: if Foobar's playback is set to "random" or "shuffle", the first video normally, then on finishing it stops all playback without changing tracks.  I hope that's an easy fix.

If - while playing video - I choose another video to play, then it does not show it.
If I play an audio-only file in the meantime, it does.

I got it working but I don't know how.
Using http://www.foobar2000.org/components/view/foo_input_exe
and https://hydrogenaud.io/index.php/topic,98998.0.html
and maybe this helped https://www.foobar2000.org/components/view/foo_input_avs

Ok when everything is fixed on your end I have a little wish list.

1. Allow it to use external filters and decoders
2. Subtitle compatibility
3.panel integration

2. Subtitle compatibility

Please be more specific about it?

Like for the standard subtitle formats such as .srt, ,ass, and .ssa that are either embedded within a file like .mkv or in the same directory.

Did you install VSFilter(32bit)?

Does it need to be the 32bit?

Does it need to be the 32bit?
Yes, because foobar2000 is 32bit software.
So, Chimera(foo_video) is running on 32bit.

foo_video is Video plugin that able to play [.mp4] and [.mkv] video file on foobar2000.

At the moment foo_video is still in the experiment stage.
Use at your own risk.

Please read to end for my question.

Thank you so much for creating this, so far it seems to be the best way to bypass windows directsound and keep the audio from movies exact via WASAPI, KS or ASIO.

I've got 2 files,

1 at 48 kHz, 6 ch, 5757 kbps, ATSC A/52
2 at 48 kHz, 6 ch, 11072 kbps, ATSC A/52

They both read the same in MKVtoolnix for audio and video codec. If one plays and one crashes foobar instantly, what do you think may the problem be? Could it be RAM related, if I've only got 8GB trying to open an 8GB file, may that be an issue? Is there software I may find out more about the file details and find the major difference between the 2 files, aside from one having almost twice the audio bitrate... Thanks for any help.

It would also be fantastic if I could integrate the video window into the Foobar2000 panels.
>>I will implement it in future.
But, with present condition, I think that my skill isn't reached to implement it.
Maybe that take a long time.
So, two years later, what are the chances of getting a Columns UI panel version of your plugin? I didn't think it could be that hard to make it. After all you've made the player already.

Can someone upload this plugin somewhere? Chimera seems to be gone from the creator's website (which also seems to be gone).

CrowRabbit uploaded the component to a mirror, check this post: https://hydrogenaud.io/index.php/topic,113166.msg960191.html#msg960191

I feel like I'm missing something. It shouldn't be as simple as dragging and dropping / opening a video file right? I have the plugin loaded but upon playing it, it just plays the audio.. As if I've never even installed the plugin in the first place.

What will you want to do if Chimera supported DUI/CUI?

After all, I think wise choice which is make open-source.

Well, first of all I think you have created something incredible: your plugin essentially turns foobar from an audio player into a multimedia player - for both audio and video. But in order to be complete, I need it to be an integral part of the player. Not a separate floating window.

To answer your question directly:
I imagine having a separate Columns UI panel that would display videos. I could use Panel Stack Splitter (https://wiki.hydrogenaud.io/index.php?title=Foobar2000:Components_0.9/Panel_Stack_Splitter_(foo_uie_panel_splitter)) and script this panel to only show up below/beside the playlist for video files.

I mean, this is huge - I could turn my music library into music + music videos / live concerts library. A complete overhaul.

I have an issue where certain files play off sync and most others don't. When I play them in a dedicated video player there's no issue, so I don't really know what the problem is. I was thinking instead of trying to problem solve the issue, would it be possible to have a setting that I could put an timing adjustment in ms (like 200 for sliding the video 200ms later, and -200 for sliding it 200ms earlier)? Even for files that don't have issues in the player but are just off-sync in general, this could be a great help!

This kinda thing (I quickly hacked this together in photoshop LOL):

Thank you as always for your great plugin!
