Please help me! I have recorded some sounds using a MP3 Player, the resulting files are WAV files (32kbps, 4 bit, 1 channel (mono), 8 KHz, IMA ADPCM), I donĀ“t know much about audio but I need to convert this files to MP3 using the simplest possible way. I have tried the LAME encoder's command-line, Razorlame and LAME Front-end but all of them show an error and won't convert it. The only thing that has worked for me has been FooBar2000 processing options and choosing CONVERT MONO TO STEREO in the available DSPs. Is there a way to do it using only the LAME encoder alone OR Is there a way to use that magical Foobar2000 DSP with the Lame Encoder???
a) there's no point in converting to stereo
b) try "LAME 3.99.5 using libsndfile 1.0.25" from http://www.rarewares.org/mp3-lame-bundle.php (http://www.rarewares.org/mp3-lame-bundle.php)
Possibly what your recorder produces is not a standard wav file, or is one with a non-standard header. 8 bit/8kHz mono wav is 64kbps, twice what you specified.
I downsampled a speech-only CD track to 8 bit/8kHz, getting the best result I could through varied dithering and filtering options. It is easily understood but not particularly nice. RazorLame, my tool of choice, has no difficulty converting it to mp3.
Maybe you could post a sample, 10 to 30 seconds in length.
If foobar2000 can play it, the built-in converter should be able to convert it.

Here's one of my files (my 3 year old son singing to me, thus, invaluable file) it lasts about a minute:

Just what I needed! Thanks a lot.
