Title: foobar2000 v1.0 beta 6
Post by: Peter on 2009-12-28 18:59:57
foobar2000 v1.0 beta 6 has been released.
Download... (http://www.foobar2000.org/download)
Read release notes... (http://www.foobar2000.org/?page=ReleaseNotes&version=10)

List of changes:

This is most likely the last beta version before 1.0 final. There have been no major bug reports since the previous beta. I personally recommend all users to install it - make a new portable install if you don't want to overwrite your existing 0.9.x install yet - and try it, so if there is anything seriously wrong, you don't miss your chance to report it before the stable version is out.

I hope the track-numbers of the asx-files which contain multi-entries can be shown, just like mslive done. And the Urls are treated to other fields, therefore the metadata of the "artist name" and "track title" can be edited.
Thank you!

Still no way to have livestreams in the library and creating an autoplaylist to show them?
Title: foobar2000 v1.0 beta 6

Within a file, would it be possible to write the ALBUM ARTIST field after the ALBUM one (and not always on the first place)?
The problem is, that when ALBUM ARTIST comes first and tags are not unicode, some applications and (portable) devices with simplier sw "think" that - with a space after it - the ALBUM field is buggy and discard it. Annoying.

As far as I'm concerned, that wouldn't break any standards and could solve a problem.

I can't believe the utf-8 problem with shoutcast is finally fixed! I've waited for it quite a lot of time.

Now nothing stands between foobar2000 and perfection

Hi there!
I'm an enthusiast foobar2000 user!

But I still have problems with multichannel FLAC files.

How could I get foobar to output them with 5.1 through SPDIF?

SPDIF doesn't support multichannel. The bitrate is simply too high for the spec. You should however be able to transmit multichannel PCM through HDMI.

and try it, so if there is anything seriously wrong, you don't miss your chance to report it before the stable version is out.

I think handling of asx playlists with multiple "mirrors" of the same stream is not beautiful (fb2k adds every url to the playlist then). Example: http://bbc.co.uk/radio/listen/live/r3.asx (http://bbc.co.uk/radio/listen/live/r3.asx) --- Not sure, but I think fb2k should not treat such asx'es like playlists. It should only select a working url. I don't know if there are also "playlist" like ASXes out there and if they maybe can be distinguished from "mirror ASXes".

This is a really minor visual quirk, but I've just noticed (never before have I performed such a massive encode) that in the converter progress window, if both "time elapsed" and "estimated:" is h:mm:ss, then "speed:" isn't displayed, and since the window isn't resizable, there's no way to make it visible.

I think asx playlist are still playlists. When stream is inside an m3u playlist along with all its mirrors FB2K does not do any smart guessing. It should not do that for asx playlist either.
I apologize if I've missunderstood.

I'm not an expert here, but this is from my experience. I think there's simply a difference in asx and m3u typical usage. As far as I understood, ASXes offer playlists as well as "mirrors for the same stream". AFAIR this is the reason why mslive plugin offered a checkbox "playlist". Also it did manage to display one fb2k playlist entry, but handle the url reference internally.
On the other hand I see, VLC is also showing all entries in it's playlist. Still, above mentioned "internal handling" would be a nice-to-have, simply since fb2k is muck more playlist based, and entries like http://bbc.co.uk/radio/listen/live/r3.asx (http://bbc.co.uk/radio/listen/live/r3.asx) would mess the playlist.

Yes, however, it's:
Program Files (x86)
Program Files

And you can always install it in portable mode wherever you like.

ok, thanx. still, if i do NOT want to install in portable mode, 32-bit is right? just asking because it´s nowhere written. there are 2 versions of win7, so if u are going to final, plz be more precise in "supported OS".

btw, anyone can explain to my why u just give torrent-file to download? i don´t use torrent and guess many others don´t either. is it realy ur intention to say: "u can´t download because u don´t use torrents?" strange i say.

edit: feel free to delete my posting. thank you for your help and don´t misunderstand me.

32-bit applications go into Program Files (x86), 64-bit applications go into Program Files. The setup program should suggest the right location.
You may of course install things wherever you want (and have permission to), but that's the canonical division.

well, i'd really appreciate if the mouse was hidden automatically after a few seconds when visualization is switched to full screen, coz it's really annoying to pull it to a corner again and again.

even better would be an option to disable screensaver/hibernation/anything when it's in fullscreen.

and your handling of utf-8 cuesheets is still broken, but i'm already warned because of "pointless bumps" in the related thread (no reply since march) ...

and oh yeah, foobar won't display album art via cuesheet, another "pointless bump" in the related thread, no reply since february.

The official distribution is via Bittorrent. If you do not like this, you're welcome to download from elsewhere, but there's no guaranteeing what you'll get. On the other hand, the Bittorrent beta is known to be good.

I'd like to edit the asx-files by myself, there are several conditions:
i) the radio station contain multi-channels, such as BBC, AOL, etc. I'll collect them together in an asx-file, and FB2K parse the asx-file looks like an album;
there is an example:

ii) as the example shows, if there are several REFs for one channel, I'd like to edit them in one entry, so it'll be shown tidy and beautiful.
The example shown below:

Ok, weird problem. Trying to install (standard/portable, doesn't matter which), I get the following message:

Code: [Select]
The following components are no longer supported in this version:

foo_albumlist.dll
foo_cdda.dll
foo_converter.dll
foo_dsp_std.dll
foo_input_std.dll
foo_rgscan.dll
foo_ui_std.dll

They will be deleted when you click OK.

Right after the installer has extracted the files!? Installing files that are no longer supported?!? Obviously running fb2k doesn't work and gives error message:

Code: [Select]
Internal Error - please re-run the foobar2000 installer.

The same installer that made this problem in the first place?!

EDIT: WinXP SP3, no previous fb2k installs.

Can you repeat the procedure with the attached foover.exe instead of the one from Case's package and post minidump files of crashes that you get? Or process monitor logs if it doesn't appear to crash for you.

Same output with your foover.exe. Crash? What crash are you talking about? The one when starting fb2k after install? What minidumps? More detailed instructions needed (for the sysinternals tool also, what processes to include, registry also? don't want to post millions of lines here). Thanks.

"-1073741819" is the access violation exception code (C0000005), so it would appear that component verification is failing due to a crash.
I have no idea where this comes from though.
Does foover.exe process even get started according to Process Monitor? What does it do before terminating if it does start normally? Full Process Monitor logs of everything that foover.exe does would be very useful.
Maybe Case can figure this out.

I noticed the changes of edit menu: It is no longer related to playlist view but to focused element.

Everytime now if i want to apply some commands on active playlist (remove duplicates, clear, undo, redo, ...) i firtly have to click inside playlist view to grab its focus because buttons and hotkeys would not work either. Is the benefit of this newly added feature higher than the price (frustrating annoyment)?

Last minute feature request.

Can Album List/Filter have a clear entry button?

I use on HTPC using a mouse & virtual keyboard, and also on a traditional pc, and deleting the text in the filter box to get back to the entire album list is a pain.  I have to engage brain, which distracts me from my other useless activities.

Thanks for the updates!

thanks for the new version, on a side note, is the ASIO plugin going to be updated for the future 1.0 version? The config says that the config panel for the ASIO plugin is a legacy one and it's not fully functional, you have to apply, ok, close the window for the device to be actually selectable in the output section.

i hope this is the place to report an error that keeps happening to me since i use the beta versions (sine beta 1)
every time i close the player, and the next time i start it it says it hasnt been closed properly, then all my playlists and tracks are at some previous, older arrangement and stuff
then i became more careful - stopped playback and closed from menu File> Exit .. and yet this keeps on appearing from time to time
is it due to the fact that its in beta stage or that im using windows7 .. or maybe both?

How can re-arrange my context menu as i please? I always liked the way foobar can be reconfigured... i hope version 1.0 won't introduce limitations :|

You can't rearrange it. It's been stated several times that this is how the context menu will work.

While running Foobar2000 1.0 beta 4 I was getting some BSODs under Win 7 64bit-- I'm not 100% sure if Foobar is causing it but (I've run Memtest & done full surface scans of all my drives to rule out a hardware problem) it's been running each time it has happened which so far has been 3 times.  Unfortunately Windows isn't creating crash dumps so I haven't been able analyze them for the cause.  My theory is that the problem is related to either FLAC playback or the new monitoring function of the Media Library (which works amazingly well by the way!).  I have foobar monitoring my Music folder and I'm often downloading new music via bittorent that gets indexed while partially downloaded-- could that be the source of the problem?  I've just updated to beta 6 and so far the problem hasn't happened again.  Overall excellent work on this new release and the media library monitor is something I've been wanting for years.  One other question-- is there a list anywhere of skins that are compatible with v1.0?

Bug fix: Incorrect sorting of the "Duration" column in Default UI.

although that issue was fixed in beta4, using queries in media library search is still broken.
Change your query to ALL SORT BY %length_seconds%. The behaviour you're reporting is not necessarily incorrect.

Programs running in user mode can't cause BSODs. The cause is either hardware problem or driver bug or occasionally even an OS bug. I'd suspect sound card drivers if you only see them with foobar. Especially if you use some other output mode than Direct Sound.

ADv, what is the version you are upgrading from? And did installer show any warning messages?

Then you're going to have to provide more details.

For example:
Are you installing in portable mode or standard mode?

If standard: What is the location of your configuration files? (fb2k Preferences->General) Does changing this solve things?

DUI spectrum. With the number of bands set at 80 (or less) cpu usage is low at 0-1%. With 160 bands selected the cpu usage rises hugely to >30%. XP SP3. This is in normal mode (i.e. not full screen). This is not really a big deal to me, but as I noticed the issue I thought I would point it out.

I was very pleased to hear that 1.0 will support relative paths for media library. I have played around with this feature, and it seems that even for relative libraries, playlists do not use relative paths so that if the drive letter changes all my playlists break. Any thoughts?

I noticed the changes of edit menu: It is no longer related to playlist view but to focused element ...
Is the benefit of this newly added feature higher than the price (frustrating annoyment)?

Excuse my tone - it seems i was a little bit frustrated.

If the change of edit menu functionalty (not remarkable in CUI!) is not the beginning of further planned changes could then this new feature be optional?

Try with removing foo_uie_panel_splitter. You actually don't have any benefit from it, because it works only with Columns UI, which you don't have installed.

No, but Peter mentioned somewhere (in this thread?) that it will be one of the last betas as most problems should apparently have been fixed.

Hi,

I would like to use this version of foobar (thank you Peter by the way for that great jewellery) but is it safe to rip/convert with it?
For the rest, I'm not scared of this beta as long as it doesn't touch to my tags!

@fbuser, thanks, but i had the problem before. i have that component since my last lousy attemp to theme fb2k
so its not that.. even if i install a new fresh beta 6 from right here, it would be the same.. personally it doesnt bother me, but this is a whole community and i want to help it improve, so may other not have the issues i have
P.S. there is some foobar log thing.. should it turn it on if it logs something and then paste the data here?

I have encountered a somewhat minor thing that bugs me when I switched to the 1.0 beta 6: before (i.e. 9.6.9), when I dragged an item from any playlist into the message window in Miranda (instant messenger), it would open the sending dialogue; however, with the new version it simply copies the artist and title as simple text into the message box.
Is there any way to change this back to normal, maybe even a setting that I just haven't stumbled across yet?
Thanks very much in advance.

Instead of having a separate Now Playing plugin, I've always bound a global hotkey to [context/playing] Copy. To spiff things up a little, I've also edited the Options>Advanced>Display>Legacy>Copy field to include a progressbar. This has stopped working as of the 1.0 betas, as the %playback_time% variable has stopped working. Actually, all variations of %playback_time% has stopped working (seconds et. al.) as well.

Now, here's the peculiar part. %playback_time% seems to be working everywhere except for the legacy fields, but everything else works in the very same fields where %playback_time% fails to return a value.
