Exact Audio Copy (EAC):
http://www.exactaudiocopy.de (http://www.exactaudiocopy.de)

Nothing comes close if you care about quality. You will also need to download the latest LAME encoder compiles from this site and point EAC to use it, preferably with the "--alt-preset standard" setting.

And then you're all set...

here's a toturial to set up EAC: http://www.ping.be/satcp/ (http://www.ping.be/satcp/)

EAC is the ripper (the prog that copies the cd to your hd).

LAME is the encoder that converts to mp3.
You can setup EAC to use LAME to encode (to mp3) but many prefer using a frontend like razorLame.

Whatever you choose alway be sure to have the newest version of LAME.

If you are after the best quality audio you might wanna look into MusePack/mpc which is a lossy encoder like LAME (but you get mpc files not mp3).
