I had posted this topic in another thread.
But little response.
I have MP2 conformance bit-stream, e.g. test01.mp2.
This file has 5.1 channel configuration.
I tried to decode it with Lame(3.96.1) and foobar2000(0.8.3), but they could only decode the stereo channel part.
Does Lame can not decode MPEG-2 multichannel format?
Or is there any decoder can do it?
Source code is plus.
Not sure what your goal is, exactly, but for multichannel transcoding, either BeSweet or HeadAC3he may be of help.

Nor BeSweet or HeadAC3he can read multichannel MPEG audio. They only read the first two channels in the stream. I remember there was only one software implementation of multichannel MPEG audio decoder, and it was a commercial library.
Usual decoders - MAD, mpg123, FhG... - can't decode multichannel MPEG audio.
Or is there any decoder can do it?
You should search for an old Philips player

Won't decode multichannel, I already tried.
you may try the ISO dist 10 decoder in the mpeg2-mc directory

Yes, this code really works.
It seems a "old version" code although.
AFAIK, DVB includes MP2 as its multichannel format.
Is there any application that use MP2 multichannel?
I think that old PAL DVDs sometimes contained MP2 multichannel. While I never found a DVD software player to play more than the stereo part it actually worked quite well by using the decoding feature of my Soundblaster Audigy.

I've never bothered to check if the Fhg mp3 surround demo (http://www.iis.fraunhofer.de/amm/download/mp3surround/) is something different or just the iso mpeg2-mc implementation for layer3.

DVB broadcasters use ac3 in general. The only real use that I know for mp2 multichannel is home made svcds.

DVB document, TS 101 154, says that
"The IRD should be capable of decoding at least the ISO/IEC 11172-3 compatible basic stereo information fom an ISO/IEC 13818-3 multi-channel audio bit-stream. Full decoding of an ISO/IEC 13818-3 multi-channel audio bit-stream is optional."
So I'm just out of curiosity to realize the syntax of the 13813-3 multi-channel.
I agree that DVB has capability of carrying AC-3 audio.
But how many multi-channel formats could be in DVB(which TS xxx?) ?
DTS? MPEG-2/4 AAC?
