Ive got a 2.8 celeron for HTPC so I assume I should use the P3 compile of oggdropxpd?

Yes, or if it supports SSE2, then you could also use the P4 compile.

Somehow I suspect there won't be much difference in speed between SSE and SSE2.

Thanks guys! Now I can get to encoding. I finally got everything squared away. Settings, tagging (thanks to John) and how I am going to sync with a Iriver H320.

Also thanks for all your help! It is very cool that you guys answer questions no matter how simple! Much appreciated!!!

My Athlon 64 encodes a 4 minute file a whole 3 seconds faster with the SSE2 build

Not much of a difference, but big enough for me

Would that work on a Mendocino Celeron (ancient 366mhz laptop cpu)?

That would be a Pentium 2 based celeron...so i'm afaid neither the SSE or SSE2 builds would work on it
