Post by: Etceterae on 2019-01-24 04:25:35
I may sound like a noob, what is a software I can use that can play LPAC compressed audio files?

Do you have such a file?   You'd probably have to find software to decompress it and convert it to another format.

I've never heard of it...  I had to Google...  Wikipedia says:

Meanwhile, it is no longer developed because an advanced version of it has become an official standard under the name of MPEG-4 Audio Lossless Coding.

Thank you! I was converting a WAV file to multiple codecs to see which one has the highest compression.

I may be wrong, but since you mentioned encoding only a single WAV file, I take it you want to have a general idea about CODEC efficiency.

In this case, you may find the various comparisons (https://wiki.hydrogenaud.io/index.php?title=Lossless_comparison#External_links) done throughout HA's existence, by the likes of Sythetic Soul, Guruboolez et al, quite effective.

Winamp+its LPAC plugin
XMPlay + its LPAC plugin
foobar2000 0.8 + its LPAC plugin

this software is more than 10 years though.
