Foobar 1.4 beta 17 runs always in foreground?!

...how do i change that behavior to "normal"?

By reversing what you have done to make it stay in foreground all the time. Thus either pressing View->Always on Top or Alt-A (at least it's Alt-A for me, it's possible that I have set it myself way back)

Yes, you did. (alt-A switches to Album gain here :) )
