Audiotrak Maya 44 MKII

http://www.audiotrak.net/maya44mk2.htm

I would like to buy this one but i'm an absolute beginner and i'm afraid of it a bit. I read a lot on this forvm (faq+search) but i'm not clever enough. Could somebody help me to understand the advantages and disadvantages of this soundcard?

Edit: What does the harddisc recording feature exactly mean? Why is it good?

Thank you

The question is: What do you want to do with it? Listen to music? Recording? Using headphones?

Oh! Excuse me! Certainly i want to record. It's clear. My only problem is i don't want a Prodigy 7.1/Revolution 7.1 or Audigy 2 ZS.
I thought a Marian Marc 2 Pro or Echo MIA would be the best for me before but i heard about Marians bad drivers. Echo MIA is discontinued and hardly findable. Maya 44 MKII is more cheaper, the "harddisc recording" sounds good  even if i don't know what it is .
Now i just do a search on google: "what is harddisc recording".
And i'm also distracted about other features (are there hardware channels in Maya 44MKII?, etc).  That's why i'm looking for advices - what are the (dis)advantages of this card?

I found this page

What is Hard Disc Recording?
Hard Disc Recording is the process where audio is digitized and stored on a computer's hard drive for later playback. Many programs, either stand-alone or as part of a sequencer package, can play multiple audio files at the same time, making the computer an ideal platform for mixdowns or combining MIDI and audio recording sessions. Usually, you can add reverb and special effects (fx) to the audio, either permanently or at the time of mixdown, much as you would do with a tape recorder.

I would recommend m-audio-cards, but everything of course is dependant of the budget you wanna spend (m-audio audiophile 2496 is nice, the 1010lt, too)

If you can´t get the Mia any more, the ESI Waveterminal 192X (X!) is certainly also a very good choice

harddisc-recording: You want to record digitally, so you should store your music on the PC and use the Soundcard as imput. You certainly want to have CD-quality, so recording with high-resolution (24bit/96khz) would be nice, so you can downsample after it.

Yeah! I've already found WaveTerminal 192X but that's more expensive (2xMaya44) here.  Is that much better than Maya (any special)? Is the harddisc recording feature useful/important?

they can all record to harddisc: Imho harddisc-recording is realized via Software which is using the analog input, that´s it... even you onboard-soundcard can make HD-recording.

If you want to go for stereo, the Audiophile 2496 is for sure a very good choice and it is pretty cheap. The E-MU 1212M (very very good card but uncertain quality of drivers) you could possibly also consider.

Watching at http://audio.rightmark.org/results.shtml could also give you an impression of the quality of the cards (also watch the forum there, lot´s of information: http://forum.rightmark.org/?id=4).

cheers

Have you read the following Digit-Life review? It's not very in depth usage report, but you might find it useful nevertheless.

I've been very happy with RME Audio cards and their drivers myself. Very reliable.

The new Hammefall HDSP 9632 is very capable, but also expensive (c. 410 e).

Maya44 MK II looks very good for the price as well.

MAYA44 MKII sound card is an excellent “all-in-one” budget solution clearly positioned as an entry-level pro equipment. The professional Envy24HT-S and two Wolfson WM8731 I2S stereo codecs is a fine example of a well-balanced design. The card doesn’t provide modern level of record quality, however it has a comprehensive number of features and excellent drivers for professional applications. And those fans of ESI/Audiotrak, who need multichannel DVD output and higher-quality converters for playback, might consider buying Audiotrak Prodigy 7.1 or even ESI Waveterminal 192L.

does not sound that good for me actually: I would go for the M-Audio Audiophile (there is also review at digitlife).
