free software to cut/censor vocals from songs?

What type of software would I use to edit/bleep/censor certain words from tracks?  I need to do this for a friend at work (don't ask).  I guess he is asking me to do something like make radio-friendly versions of a couple of songs for a project.  Would Audacity do this or I am I barking up the wrong tree?
