Plextor doesn't manufacture their own drives any more, so like any Plextor model introduced in the last several years, it is a rebranded Lite-On drive.  The OEM is Lite-On and the chipset is from MediaTek.

Therefore, expected performance is that of the most recent Lite-On drives.

However, you won't fully know until you actually put this drive through some ripping tests, which no one seems to have actually done so yet.

For this reason in recent years has decreased in the drives quality or maintaining their  standard and their  reputation?

It is manufacturered by Lite-On and rebranded.

They are not as desired as the old Plextor drives that they used to manufacture themselves due to this.

Not much more to say really.

The Plextor PX-L890 models seem to be hopelessly faulty, having noticed the many complaints at the Plextor forum and other fora:

The PX-L890 doesn't show up on Spoon's list.

The almost-mythical PX-230A seems to be a rebranded BenQ. At least, that's what everybody on the 'net says – and not many are able to tell you which BenQ you could buy instead, or whether the firmware makes any big difference.  Anyway, searching http://www.accuraterip.com/driveoffsets.htm , there are a lot of CD-RW-drives with the same offset (+738), including the BenQ 5232X.
