Title: How to listen to Radio Garden and other web-streaming sources?
Post by: AndreaT on 2020-03-18 09:01:22
Hello,
anyone out there knows how to listen to Radio Garden using Foobar?

Why not have a generic foobar_input that can be bound to any source?

I mean, if Foobar would have a kind of generic ASIO_input then I could use virtual-cables to route any PC-App audio output to my Foobar's input.

Do you know anything doing that?

Kind regards, Andrea

I just tried using chrome developer tools, from network tab, start the stream from browser, copy and paste the stream link into foobar2000, it works

Paste into Foobar? Where? Can you provide screeshots or a detailed workflow?
Does Foobar requires to have installed some specific component?
Thanks and regards, Andrea

from chrome, you will notice stream link by looking waterfall column which indicate stream activity, copy that link address, paste into add location menu.

Hi,

You can use Case's Recorder component, https://foobar.hyv.fi/?view=foo_record together with VB cable.

Thanks again.

@sacduser Many thanks! This would fix my problem of playing from a generic input.

Hello @sacduser , I installed and configured foo_record, but I am getting

Playback Error
Unable to open item for playback (Object not found):
"record:"

as I try to play the stream...
Any idea of the problem?

kind regards, Andrea

Your location is incorrect. You need the slashes after the "record:" - record://
Title: Re: How to listen to Radio Garden and other web-streaming sources?
Post by: AndreaT on 2020-03-18 21:04:57
Hello @Case , thanks for your help.
I corrected the location and now I am getting this new error when selecting the wanted ASIO Analog Input :

Unable to open item for playback (Attempted to open with an unsupported waveform-audio format):
"record://"

Instead, selecting an ASIO ADAT Input, the audio stream plays fine.

Now I have to understand why this problem with any ASIO Analog Input...
Do you have any idea about?

Thanks and regards, Andrea

Hi AndreaT,

You should check that Hi-Fi cables, input and output are configured to same number of channels, bitdepth, and samplerate as Recorder component.

Post by: AndreaT on 2020-03-19 09:53:28
Hello @sacduser , unfortunately it is not a problem of cables set-up.
Both inputs (Analog and ADAT) are normal stereo (2ch) inputs at 96kHz of sampling rate.
The problem looks to be realted to the type of Inputs.
When selecting any ADAT (optical digital) inputs all run fine, while I cannot select any Analog to Digital input because of the above reported error.
Thanks for your attention and kind regards, Andrea

Hi,

The error message reported by you indicate a parameter mismatch for the Analogue connection. You could try to vary input parameters for Recorder component which is a fast and easy operation.

Hello @sacduser , sure, you are right... but... the point is that also my configured paramenters are correct:
Stereo, 96kHz, 24bit... there are no other options.

Honestly, I think it is a bug of foo_record or some king of limitation in Foobar.
I also know from @k2k that there are problems in managing ASIO Analog interfaces from MathAudio Room EQ.

Thanks again. Regards, Andrea

The error code suggests the device doesn't support the parameters you tried to use with it. Have you tried different configuration?

Also as a test you could try recording with the same settings in Audacity (https://www.audacityteam.org/). Change the interface to match foo_recorder by setting host mode to "MME". The option can be found at Edit -> Preferences -> Devices.

Post by: AndreaT on 2020-03-19 18:03:01
Hello @Case , I installed Audacity 2.3.3 and tested it using MME audio interface.
Very bad result... I got exactly the same problem:
- No way to record from any ASIO Analog Inputs
- All perfect recording from any ASIO ADAT Optical Inputs

This is very strange because my ASIO Analog Inputs can be perfectly managed / accessed by other common audio tools like:
- REW (Room EQ Wizard)
- Cantabile Live Performance (VST DAW)
- and Windows 10 itself can use my ASIO Analog Inputs as Mic / Input sources

Thanks a lot for you kind support.

Hello @Case, I searched internet and I found (official from Audacity https://manual.audacityteam.org/man/asio_audio_interface.html) that Audacity DOES NOT support ASIO Input.
The support page says also that by default Audacity has a very limited support of ASIO interfaces.
For a full ASIO support is required to download the SDK from Steinberg, the Audacy source code and then compile all of our own...
Ha! Ha! Ha!....

Hi,

Looking into above information I find:
- you have an analog input card with ASIO interface only
- Foobar Recorder component use MME interface

To open a connection you need a bridge. From VB-Audio home page I find:
"With ASIO-Bridge Application ASIO Device Input can be routed to HIFI CABLE's Output." And HIFI CABLE's output has MME interface for connection to Recorder component.

I can not test above configuration, only forward the information for your consideration.

Hello @sacduser and @Case , my MOTU 896 mk3 audio device has also WaveRT native driver. I enabled also the WaveRT option and its interface popped-up among the audio interfaces of my Windows 10 PC.
However I couldn't find any WaveRT interface option within the Foobar / record input list menu.
Do you know if WaveRT is supported by Foobar or not?

Hello @sacduser , @case and all,
I don't know what I did, but after having enabled WaveRT, installed Hi-FI Cable ASIO Bridge and VB-Audio Cable, without (I repeat WITHOUT) configuring anything, like by magic, my ASIO Analog Inputs became functioning also for MME interfaces!
So, now, the foo_record can perfectly open the stream directly from ASIO Analog Inputs and not only from ASIO ADAT Optical Inputs.
Thanks all of you for your kind support and the many tips that eventually brought me to the lucky solution.
Regards, Andrea

You can install foo_input_ffmpeg (FFmpeg Decoder Wrapper) and make sure that in the preferences under Playback>Decoding>FFmpeg Decoder Wrapper "HLS" is ticked. You also need a ffmpeg executable in the path.

Hello @qwee, in my case, I cannot access the URL as you provided.
It may be simply that the stream is now off or disabled.

You need to update to Foobar 1.6.1 which supports HLS streams.

foobar2000 with internal decoder doesn't seem to work on that link. FFmpeg Decoder Wrapper (https://www.foobar2000.org/components/view/foo_input_ffmpeg) with FFmpeg release build 4.3.1 (tested with zeranoe build) also not working, but latest git build from here (https://github.com/BtbN/FFmpeg-Builds/releases) it plays fine.
