What do these FLAC Errors mean

I am re-encoding about 750 GB worth of FLAC files from 1.1.2 & 1.1.3 (-5 or -6) to 1.1.4 (-8).  The files are contained on three 250 GB hard drives and one 300 GB hard drive; each hard drive is between 65 - 75% full.  I have finished re-encoding 2 complete hard drives and am working on the last two.  I am having difficulty with the FLAC files on the 300 GB hard drive.  It seems that at least one song is corrupted on every album.  I have checked the hard drive for errors and found none.  I have checked for ID3v1 and ID3v2 tags and found none.  The files were ripped using EAC and then encoded to FLAC via EAC.

I keep getting the following errors:

What are these errors?  Is there any way to fix them without having to find each CD and rerip it?  I still have the CDs; however, they are just not organized very well and finding them all is sort of a pain.

My OS is Window XP PRO SP2 and the cpu is AMD Athlon 1.16 Ghz with 768 MB of RAM.

Please let me know if you need any additional information to help solve my problem.

Anyone have any thoughts on this?

if the errors are in the middle, the files were probably corrupted at some point in time.  if you could host one of them I can take a look.

I got the file.  it looks like a few bad sectors occur near the middle.

you can use -F to force through decode errors.  there may be dropouts or silence for the damaged frames.

Thanks! I will just re-rip and start over.  Any idea what could have caused the corruption?  My HD tested fine.

The most probable cause is faulty hardware.

- check your ribbon IDE cables for damages
- check HDD for overheating
- check memory for errors http://www.memtest.org/
- perform advanced HDD diagnostics (chkdsk /r; with manufacturer's utility; with mhdd)

Everything tested fine.

I think maybe my media server (Firefly) was causing some corruption.  I am still checking this idea out.

What filesystem are you using on the drives, NTFS or FAT32? The latter is a lot less robust and could be the problem if you're using it. NTFS very rarely messes up on its own.

Also, check your security or backup software, if you use any. Reason being that I've had F-Secure Internet Security literally wipe out some files on my PC (they were not infected and F-Secure reported no malware). In another episode, Norton Ghost 10 nuked my WMP library database and the settings on several other programs I use regularly.

Another thought: if you're running a 3rd party defrag or some other system maintenance tool, that could also be a problem... Basically look at any software that's likely to be accessing your filesystem at a low level.

Let us know how it's going.

I know that it's time consuming, but you should use Quickpar or ICE-EEC to protect your data in future.
