take care
Trickos,
I noticed you've got BlacK Hawk Down listed. Is it good start to finish? Lisa Gerrard sings in a few tunes, doesn't she?
Looks like Blade Runner is the favorite so far.

I don't know but horror movie themes are best, halloween, The exorcist.
i'm surprised none of the anime listers listed cowboy bebop (the seatbelts, mostly). it has imho far and away the best soundtrack in anime. another usual favorite that hasn't been mentioned yet is flcl (the pillows, also mostly). previously, i was under the impression that yoko kanno was the most beloved anime soundtrack writers, but it seems that i was mistaken... i also really liked the soundtrack to road to perdition for some odd reason.
I'd have to say Braveheart.
Babylon 5
titanic - my heart will go on.
Favorite soundtrack? Can I say authors? Without any order:
Vangelis (1492, Blade Runner, Mutiny in the Bounty, Chariots of fire, Missing, long list here...), John Williams (Star Wars, Superman, Indiana Jones... long list too), Ennio Morricone (The mission, all that "western music"...), Trevor Jones, Randy Edelman (The last of the Mohicans), Danny Elfman (Batman...), Maurice and Jean Michel Jarre, Michael Nyman, Jan Hammer, Hans Zimmer, Kitaro... And Mike Oldfield (The exorcist, The killing fields), Mark Knopfler (Local hero), Peter Gabriel (Birdy)...
Jeje, sorry, I like sountracks.
*Anithyng Badalamenti and Lynch are involved in.
*Pi (3.14159...)
*Sea of love (mainly because of Tom Waits's song of the same name)
*Ghost dog (i'm not into hip hop that much, but this one is solid)
*Dancer in the dark
*Amelie Poulain
*Himmel uber Berlin (Carny is oneofmyalltimefavorites)
*Hackers (nice lineup)
Can't recollect anything more ATM
titanic - my heart will go on.
And what about another great one: Bodyguard's I will always love you
Minority Report (great one)
Lord of the Rings
Titanic
Matrix
Dead Poet Society
nearly everything from John Williams (Star Wras, Indiana Jones, Jaws...)
Gladiator, Robin of Sherwood (the series), Pulp Fiction, Transformers the Movie, Back to the Future.
i was under the impression that yoko kanno was the most beloved anime soundtrack writers
I like Macross Plus soundtrack
I forgot to mention a few favourites:
- Cité des enfants perdus (City of the Lost Children, Angelo Badalamenti)
- The Conversation (Francis Ford Coppola's classic masterpiece)
- Trouble Every Day
Pink Floyd Live in Pompeji
Crystal Voyager
City of Angels
i was under the impression that yoko kanno was the most beloved anime soundtrack writers
I like Macross Plus soundtrack
From Yoko Kanno, I prefer Escaflowne OST. Brain Powerd is cool too.
Hummm... My favorite soundtrack of all time is probably Chariots of Fire (I really enjoy Vangelis, so I like 1492 and Blade Runner as well)
(No, it isn't More... or Obscured by Clouds )
Besides, I would like to mention "The Last Emperor" (David Byrne + Ryuichi Sakamoto)
Dances With Wolves
The Untouchables (Morricone, I think)
The Godfather
Forrest Gump (Wanna a piece of cho'colate?)
Heaven & Earth (Kitaro)
...
Purple Rain
Judgement Night
Small Soldiers
When The Wind Blows
Labrynth

>>I don't know but horror movie themes are best, halloween, The exorcist.
The only tune I remember from it is Oldfield's "Tubular Bells", was there more good stuff in it besides that?
Speaking of animated shows - some of the music in "Samuri Jack" is very cool.
Of course, not much beats Marge & Homer's version of the "All in the Family" theme.
Xenno
edit> How could I forget Twin Peaks (or vitually anything by Badalamenti w/ Lynch & Julee Cruise)
Trainspotting
...nothing else even comes close
Final Fantasy VII

Final Fantasy Tactics

i really should have bought more consoles, now i have to catch up on square games big time (fft, chrono cross, ffx, .......)
oh well. as far as movie soundtracks are concerned I particularly liked those:
Magnolia (Aimee Mann)
High Fidelity
I can imagine that Princess Mononoke has quite a nice soundtrack as well..
I can imagine that Princess Mononoke has quite a nice soundtrack as well..
Heh. I agree that Miyazaki is a fantastic filmmaker. But, IMHO, Joe Hisaishi's soundtracks plain suck. I don't think he's a great composer. And I simply can't stand Nausicaä's soundtrack.
(Spirited Away has some nice tunes though)
A Life Less Ordinary
Singles
Great Expectations
Reality Bites
All great OSTs. But only the first and last were great movies.
The Blues Brothers
I agree with fewtch, in the fact that Conan the Barbarian is the best movie soundtrack I've ever heard (although I'm still mad at the horrible job of mastering that was done on the album. It sounds like it was recorded in the 50s, not the 80s). John Williams soundtracks are okay, except that he rips a lot of stuff off from composers like Holst, Mahler, Wagner, and Dukas, to name a few. (Listen to the end of Holst's Mars, Bringer of War if you don't believe me). As far as game soundtracks go, Chrono Cross takes the cake (I even went so far as to run the audio output from the PS to my computer to record many of the songs. If anyone knows of a better way to rip PS audio direct, I'd love to hear it).

Hey Tim,
You haven't heard the Conan soundtrack on vinyl by any chance have you? I'm wondering if the mastering is any better with the vinyl release... since it was the early 80's, mastering for digital was in its infancy...
Cheers,
fewtch

Several proggies convert from Sony ADPCM (XA) to WAV.
One nice option is PSMplay.
http://segu.psxemu.com (http://segu.psxemu.com)
But they are all based on reverse engineering (I think), so maybe the PS native decoder has better quality (even recording through line in)
Anyway, the best way to get CC's soundtrack is buying the CDs
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00...6644211-4971327 (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000058A81/qid%3D1031021939/sr%3D11-1/ref%3Dsr_11_1/102-6644211-4971327)
I have them, and like them a lot.
Regards;
Roberto.
Thanks for the advice.
@fewtch - Sorry, I've only got the CD. I was only 2 when the original came out, and my old 60s turntable broke a few years ago, so I gave up on vinyl after that. It would have been cool if they would have done a new digital performance of it for the 20th anniversary this year, but what are you gonna do?
I know it would be best to actually buy the soundtrack, but I wanted the songs right away! And it was good practice using line in recording.
IMHO, Joe Hisaishi's soundtracks plain suck. I don't think he's a great composer. And I simply can't stand Nausicaä's soundtrack.
Just a matter of taste. I like it very much.

In no particular order and right off the top of my head:
Singles
Spinal Tap
Star Wars (episodes 4/5/6)
Heavy Metal
Fast Time At Ridgemont High
The sunskrit tracks on the The Matrix Revolutions OST are awesome!
*Queen Of The Damned OST
*Daredevil OST
From "normal" films:
- A Caveman's Valentine (well in-tune with the graphics)
- The Tango Lesson (some very nice tango's and blends very well with the images)
- Back To The Future (it really augments the film in my opinion)
(at least those are the ones I can think of right now)
Musicals:
- Fiddler on the roof (just amazing, it really has it all)
- Jesus Christ Superstar (I still can't believe how good this music is, it's such a powerful mix of good lyrics, music and performers)
Big Wednesday
American Graffiti
Rock'n'Roll High School
Chungking Express (California Dreaming is the best song ever™)
Profondo Rosso
all the D.Lynch and K.Bigelow movies
* Magnolia
Great film too!
I'm not a big soundtrack fan at all but mine are:
See above
O Brother Where Art Thou
Purple Rain (crap film, excellent music)
Edit:
Bladerunner should get an honorable mention, that has some wonderful moments.
Even Horizon was quite atmospheric (crap film, ok music)
Fight Club (from the Dust Brothers)
Burt Bacharach : Casino Royale (for "The Look of Love", which became a standard).
Some great blaxploitation music :
Isaac Hayes : Shaft
Curtis Mayfield : Superfly
Bobby Womack : Across 110th Street
The Wall - Pink Floyd
Gattaca Soundtrack
The Wall - Pink Floyd
[nitpick mode]
Technically,
The Wall wasn't a soundtrack because it was released several years before the movie was made. Instead of the album being a soundtrack for the movie, it's more like the movie was a "videotrack" for the album. Otherwise, it would be my favorite too (by far).
[/nitpick mode]
My favorite soundtrack of all time is
Lexx: The Series (Original TV Soundtrack) (Marty Simon)Second favorite:
Heavy Metal (NOT to be confused with
Heavy Metal 2000 ...ugh.)
The Wall - Pink Floyd
That is not really a soundtrack.
My favorite soudtrack would be the first "The Crow" album, I guess.
Yeah, well, there are games listed in here, too. And technically, they aren't soundtracks in the truest sense of the word either.
Fine then.
Vanishing Point had a great bunch of then current music. Though I doubt you could find it anywhere.
I'm surprised nobody mentions The Time Of The Gypsies (Les Temps Des Gitans) by Goran Bregovic, to the film by Emir Kusturica. The title song to that movie (Ederlezi) is undoubtedly the strongest moment on film ever, in my opinion. The movie is also if not the best, one of the best films ever made. See it. Hear it!
Movie soundtrack - The Big Lebowski
Video game soundtrack - Metroid Prime OST
A friend of mine has a really cool soundtrack by Yoko Kanno from some Japanese game called Napple Tale.

Yellow Submarine was kinda different for a Beatle album.
