Thermal Transfer Printing.

I've recently bought a cheapo CD printer (direct to surface, not a label printer). The results are very neat and tidy if used on white tops.

The question is - Is the thermal transfer process likely to have any long term effects, seem to be no immediate problems ?

Anyone have any experience.

(edit) The makers (TDK) suggest printing before burning, which is what makes me wonder (/edit)
