Foobar suddenly refuses to recognize Win+Space hotkey

Oops, I guess the topic title got cut off and I didn't notice it. It was supposed to say "Foobar suddenly refuses to recognize Win+Space hotkey, but every other hotkey works." Dunno why I can't edit the title. Anyway...

I have Win+Space set up as a global hotkey to "Play or Pause." Worked fine for years.

Suddenly, it doesn't work. I went into the Hotkey screen under preferences, and it is still the hotkey. I changed it to something different, and it worked. I tried to change it back to Win+Space, but to no avail.

I could change it to Space.
I could change it to Win+(anything else).
I could change it to (any modifier other than Win)+Space.
I could not change it to Win+Space.

I find this extremely odd.

OS is Win XP Pro SP2 (on Boot Camp).

The only thing I can think of is that some other application has a Win+Space hotkey and is overriding it, but it doesn't seem to do anything on its own.

AFAIK, The Win key is reserved for OS level shortcuts.

For example in Windows 7, Win +spacebar enables Aeropeak on all windows on the desktop.

Then why does it work for all other Win+[hotkey] combinations?

And why has Win+Space been working for the past year or so?

Good question. Have you updated to fb2k recently?

If I understand your question, I believe so, yes.

0.9.6.8 is the newest version of Foobar as far as I know.

As far as I know, Win+Space is taken by Vista sidebar. Try disabling it, maybe it will work.

As I said in my first post, I'm using XP.

Uh, well, try this small WinHotKeyTest program.
It will try to register Win+Space hotkey, then print the reason if it fails, or let you try pressing it in various other apps to see if it's really system wide in case it succeeds.
Full-quoting makes you scroll past the same junk over and over.

It failed, saying it's already registered.

...but by what?

I guess this isn't really a foobar issue now, but I still have no idea how to solve this...

OK. Unfortunately there is no direct API function to retrieve which process has registered which hotkey AFAIK.

You might try the following:
1/ Install Process Explorer.
2/ Run it, go to "Main menu > View > Select columns...", enable "
  • Context Switch Delta" on the "Process Performance" tab.
3/ See if Context Switch Delta increases for some process when you press and hold the Win+Space combination - that should be the culprit.
Full-quoting makes you scroll past the same junk over and over.

Hehe, I already had Process Explorer open

Anyway, that didn't seem to help, but...

Now I can use the hotkey. I guess my computer became tired of playing games with me?

It remains to be seen whether or not that will remain the case, but it's working now, so problem solved I guess?

Thank you for your help.
