The Slowdive Sound

I've been wondering about how Slowdive created their signature slurred, attack-free guitar sound. The chords just seem to melt into one another, and it's driving me mad. All I'm sure of is that it involves plenty of effects pedals.

Any ideas?

For those of you unfamiliar with Slowdive, I've put up a few samples here.
