Title: Current SV8 Overview
Post by: Kristo on 2008-06-17 10:35:41
Could we have an overview on the SV8 Status so far.
There seems to be some confusion about whether SV8 can already
be used productively or just still for testing only.

What's missing at this point?

Is musepack_bin_20071201,zip still the current version ?

Is the SV8 codec already safe to use or not?

Thanks in advance.
Kristo

Hi Kristo. Nice to see you stick around ages after your initial involvement with Buschel's codec

1. SV8 files work very well with at least one player (no names to give)

2. The SVN code is the latest and safest to use

3. There will be an official release when we bang our heads together with the main dev, testing every byte of the code, until there is absolutely no sign of nasty bugs. We've added one feature lately and it needs to work perfectly before we release anything 'official'. An encoder made from the SVN sources will probably create files that are official SV8 files, but I don't advise to take such a gamble

4. Come by our IRC channel again. You're welcome to help test too

Hey Seed

so there are still some of the old ones out there....
I'd be happy to get involved in the current v8 testing...

Where on the IRC can I find you guys?
Cheers

Nice.

Keep working on the development of SV8. I'm a big fan of Musepack format and still using it for archival purposes.
