Edited comment field in fb2k is hidden in iTunes

I started having this problem only a few months ago and haven't been able to figure out the cause or a solution.

Whenever I edit the comment field on a flac or mp3 file with fb2k and then either convert the flac to mp3 or import the mp3 to iTunes, the comment is hidden/not visibile in itunes. If I edit the comment field on one of these mp3 files in itunes and then look at it again in fb2k, I see both comments separated by a semicolon.

I am using fb2k v1.4.5. I have not changed any of the tagging settings in Preferences/Advanced.
I am using iTunes 12.9.5.7. (currently the version downloaded directly from the Apple website, but it also happens with the Windows Store version).
I also noticed today that the comment is hidden when viewing the mp3 files in Tag&Rename 3.9.15, but are visible on the flac files.
All comments edited by fb2k on both flac and mp3 are visible in Mp3tag v2.95 (from the Windows Store).

Please let me know if more info is needed or if anyone has any idea what is going on here and if there's a fix for it, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
