What does the advanced setting: 'Sort albums by date' really do?

I've noticed that the foobar2000 mobile(ios version) has an advanced setting: 'Sort albums by date', but after I turned it on, nothing has changed, album view still sorted by alphabet, regardless of view style(list or grid).
I searched for this setting and the wiki.hydrogenaud.io shows: Self-explanatory.

Could someone please explain this setting for me? Thanks.

Enabling this works fine for me. This option does not affect the sorting of the albums in the "Albums" tab from the main section, this just affects the albums on the selected artist.

I recognize the date sort under Album Artist/Album, thanks for the explain.
