Will the ALAC input be updated to allow the HDCD plugin to work?

Is there any chance the ALAC input is going to be updated to allow the HDCD plugin to work?

I'm in a tight spot, in that I can't transcode my entire library to FLAC because i have an iPhone but I'd like to be able to take advantage of the HDCD on some of my albums.

The closest thing to a workaround i've thought of are these:

1) transcode to a 24bit ALAC (using DBpoweramp to decode HDCD) - the downside is wasted space on my iPhone
2) make a FLAC copy of the HDCDs - the downside is duplicates and wasted space

also, its difficult to do either, because in their current ALAC format, the HDCD scanner won't identify them.
