General Audio / Re: Advice on transformer hum
Last post by DVDdoug -
extracampine,

If the hum is really annoying to you, I suggest you cut your losses and buy something less exotic.    You bought something exotic and you got exotic problems.   :(

Seriously...  vacuum tubes have been obsolete since the 1960s (although guitar players still like tube distortion).    It's super-silly to put tubes in a DAC.   There are DAC chips that don't need any additional active electronics in the signal path, although you might want an op-amp buffer on the output.

I don't have a separate DAC but I've got a $20 USB soundcard and a $300 AVR and there are no "sound quality" issues.   I've got a couple computers with no sound quality problems but they do have audible fans and that might annoy you as much as the hum .

From the SimPlaylist Documentation section Column colors: "Note that text in parentheses "(...)", brackets "[...]", and braces "{...}" is dimmed automatically."

Nah, no offense taken of course, this is just a forum, I was trying to make a point.

He wanted to know where the album art was, the full list of components is irrelevant, he only needed the ones for the theme, useless comment for a thread that he was going to forget.

No offense was intended, just weren't sure if you realized the OP was blind from your posts. The plaintext list was just for reference.

edit: I just tested it out:
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

It's alive!  :)

Thanks, after tinkering a bit with wine and playonlinux I got CUETools working with no problems. Fortunately I had my old windows config from the days of winXP floating around with all my presets and everything...

Before this I was running it with mono on linux, but that way only works with WAV files, now I can save an extra step of transcoding and some tagging... and verifying in one step is much easier.

FYI I'm experiencing some visual rendering differences between SimPlaylist and the core Playlist. Here are two screen caps :

Core Playlist : http://i64.tinypic.com/2zz8cie.jpg

SimPlaylist : http://i65.tinypic.com/24btdg8.jpg

As you can see :
- The "2017" in the header is dimmed in SimPlaylist, when I didn't ask for it
- The "(Interlude)" (track 09) and "[Bonus / Panda Remix]" (track 15) are more dimmed (hence difficult to read) in SimPlaylist

My formatting codes are apparently identical in both cases. So why is SimPlaylist acting this way ?

@Coreda, thanks for typing out all the components in that screenshot. Some of them I do have, but I have yet to check out a lot of them. Who knows, maybe I'll find something useful there. 😊

The answer is probably no, I'm stumped anyway.

I go back and forth between having DSP manager set to 'downmix to mono' and unchecking it. Sometimes I forget I've accidentally left it on. I was hoping I could display whether or not it was on in the status bar or something. Like the name of the current preset that is active, something like that.

Thanks

Did you see the attached screenshot I posted? Bottom right.

... I think you may have missed one key point from the OP that you might like to re-check  ;)

Thought I'd make a plaintext list of the three highlighted components from the screenshot in your original post relating to the VU meter:

foo_uie_lyrics3
foo_vis_vumeter
foo_wave_seekbar

And the rest of the components list from the screenshot:

foo_abx
foo_ac3
foo_benchmark
foo_bitcompare
foo_burninate
foo_discogs
foo_dynamic_range
foo_input_dts
foo_input_monkey
foo_monkeymote
foo_musicbrainz
foo_out_upnp
foo_verifier
foo_w7shell

Hope that helps somewhat.
