Title: (FB2k v1.4) Random crashes
Post by: Serivas on 2018-10-11 00:40:13
Foobar 2K will randomly crash. It seems entirely random. Often crashes when idle for long periods. Does not crash with an error dialogue box. When it crashes, it simply blinks off the system suddenly. I can't make it crash, except to let it idle for as long as it takes.

Installed plugins:

game emu player
GSF decoder
QSF decoder
USF decoder
unamed legacy decoder.
(The rest being normal Foobar stuff)

Check your Event Viewer for crashes?

I did a manual scan and a search for "foobar2000.exe", but nothing shows up.

Then it's being terminated by something, not crashing. Perhaps if you could open the Components section of Preferences and click the Copy report button and paste the result here?

Your foo_psf is a really old component, but other than that, I see nothing.

Updated that plugin, still terminates unexpectedly. Well... I'm out of ideas? This only started to happen after the patch from the last stable version, it has been doing this for months now.

Make note of what you do that makes it crash. Perhaps it only happens with some certain format or possibly with certain file. You can make foobar write console to file which should help tracking the cause.

On the logs file... just a bunch of error reports like the following. I thought I told FB2K to stop trying to look over that general part of the file system... but there you go. Just a lot of random failures to check files.

Are those at the end of the logs? I was hoping that the logs would pinpoint a directory or a file that causes problems. For example if last line showed 'Opening track for playback: "E:\SteamLibrary\SteamApps\common\Red Orchestra 2\Engine\Shaders\TerrainVertexFactory.usf"' testing opening the mentioned track alone might be helpful.

This is from a video game installed on Steam, Red Orchestra. It's a WW2 simulation shooter. Those are Unreal shader files. Those would not be openable by anything but the Unreal Engine. Those were the last lines in the log, however.

Hey, I just thought of something... FB2000 will always save the current playlist when it closes properly, right? Despite me adding stuff to the playlist, it never actually saves that and always loads into the same spot from before all this started happening.

So I made sure that anything in Steam was not being indexed. FB2K has stopped crashing for the past few days. I think something with the way a plugin handles failed file checks is making a thing angry. Soo... this issue is kinda worked around then.

foo_input_usf shouldn't be leaking memory or crashing, even when handed a whole mess of non-music files with the .USF extension.
