Today, I was Googling in an attempt to determine if LAME 3.100a2 is the latest test or production release of LAME. During that, I came across several references to a "LAME 4.0" - typically either alpha-6 or alpha-14.
Anyone have any idea what this is? Is this an abandoned branch of LAME development?
It seems an older project, not even on the same branch of 3.x but completely rewritten and left alone because it wasn't worth it (correct me if I'm wrong).

Probably, Lame 4.0 aplha 14 is a project by Takehiro way back 2005. It contains many bugs and considered for testing purposes only.

As for that 'a' means 'alpha (testing)' stage.
