Support - (fb2k) / Re: Track timing with Don't reset DSP between tracks
Last post by magicgoose -
In Ultra mode the duration changes by less than 1 CD sector, but it still sometimes changes. It is unexpected, because these resamplers keep duration precisely when used on one track at a time. If Foobar can't at all know if a plugin changes the duration, perhaps a note should be added on the converter page near the checkbox, and maybe the approximate splits should be rounded to 1/75 seconds.
foobar2000 needs an API for DSP plugins so that they can signal the delay; then foobar2000 can compensate for it later.

General Audio / Re: What lossy format to use for Bluetooth transfer?
Last post by magicgoose -
aptx and Opus have totally different design goals.
aptx doesn't need to save that much bits, but it needs to have the lowest possible latency (not even 20 ms) and be very easy to encode/decode.
still if it's patented, it's crap, but so is Bluetooth as a whole, you can't simply add a codec to it without having a lot of bureaucratical drama AFAIK.

3rd Party Plugins - (fb2k) / Re: HDCD Decoder
Last post by j7n -
I have made more observations and found that the poor performance and lag on track change and seeking is connected to the running time of Foobar or perhaps amount of data played. If I leave Foobar2000 open overnight, idle, not playing, then play an HDCD track next day, it is slow. The mouse pointer freezes on track change. Only lossless CD-resolution tracks without the HDCD=no are affected. If I restart Foobar without making any changes (not the computer, just Foobar), the performance is ok. Why would this be?

General - (fb2k) / Re: Tag field for named set of tracks

Thanks. I shall use "set subtitle". I don't use ID3v2 at all, but I thought it was good idea to align with existing conventions for field names to avoid my tags renamed in a new player.

3rd Party Plugins - (fb2k) / Re: foo_sid

If one has songlength.txt loaded, could you add some option to write a lenght tag to the file?
I understand SID files are as unfriendly to tagging as every other format of that type is (For whatever reason, probably age) but M-tags and that newer external tags plugin both remove that limitation.
This is just so I could see the actual length in the playlist/total length of the folder.

CD Hardware/Software / Cue Sheet Track Boundaries
Last post by hutwo -
I've ripped my favorite PS1 game and it runs in Mednafen! But.... no music.

I have verified the cue sheet by playing the audio tracks using VLC media player.  I've ripping with CloneCD, ALcohol 120, and Imageburn into both formats: ccd/img and bin/cue and in all cases the audio plays the same.

However, still mednafen will only play track 02 in full, with all other tracks suddenly stopping after 1-2 seconds. I've tried manually tweaking the track boundaries, and it causes different tracks to play more or less amounts of audio, but then there can be other game glitches. The original CD has no issues and plays fine.

Here's the cue:

General Audio / What's the difference between these two versions of the same song?
Last post by threemilk -
There is a song called "The World Spins" by Julee Cruise which was played on Twin peaks, and I notice the version on the show is different from the one on the album -- the version on the album sounds slightly flatter and more artificial. Is there any way to discern why this might be the case by listening to the music? Is it because the version on the show was recorded live in studio as opposed to recorded using tracks? Is the TV version less compressed? I was hoping someone more knowledgeable than me about music production might be able to listen and come up with an answer.

TV show version, song starts at 2 mins 10 sec (big spoilers in this clip in case you were planning on watching the show):
