Meta: Inline monospace font

Since there is no dedicated "meta" board, I though I should post it here.

Would it be to much to ask for the board admins to supply us with a shorthand to inline monospace font?

the [acronym title='"'][[/acronym]code] tag is fine for longer verbatim text, so is [acronym title='"'][[/acronym]codebox], but I'd like something similar to the double backticks of Markdown.

I usually use [acronym title='"'][[/acronym]font="monospace"] but it would be nice to have a shorthand for that, like "" and "" or something.

Also, maybe a background emphasis would be nice.

Here's an example with Markdown:

I don't think it would be used much,  I can think of very few scenarios here where it would be useful,  and the feature would probably take more effort to implement  than it's worth.
