Plextor PX-W4824, Atapi or USB 2.0 ?

The Plextor 48x ATAPI and USB2 CD-RW drive are both the same price at Best Buy right now.  I think having an external USB drive would be nice, but does this come at a cost of compatibility ?  I want to be able to use the drive in Linux as well as Windows.  What are the advantages / disadvantages of having a USB drive as opposed to ATAPI ?

I have also been debating whether or not to get a SCSI card and go the SCSI route.  any Pros and cons of this route besides price ??
