Title: Replaygain Source mode: By playback order
Post by: 2tec on 2021-03-27 16:35:41
Hi, So as I understand it, setting Replaygain Source mode to "by playback order" is the new normal (default), rather than Source mode set to album? That is, for normal listening, this works no matter if I listen to albums, tracks, shuffle or random playback; is this correct? As well, this now alleviates the need for foo_rg_trn?

Thanks.

correct. "by playback order" will automatically use ALBUM RG values if playing tracks from same album back to back and use TRACK RG if playing a mixture of tracks from different albums.  I use this mode, but can't recall whether it is selected by default.  I know I have it selected in preferences in my own use case.

Thanks for confirming that for me. Shouldn't Replaygain default to "By playback order" rather than 'Album'?

Why? If some song is quiet then it's probably quiet on purpose, isn't it? Why should it be loud when shuffle/random mode is active?
