MP4 gapless, ctts/stts? edit lists? what's the final answer

I've seen various discussions on hydrogenaudio about embedding gapless information into the MP4 container.

FAAC seems to use ctts/stts (although the initial offset is off by 64)
foobar+neroaacenc.exe uses stts but not ctts
other discussions (including this paper - http://www.itscj.ipsj.or.jp/sc29/open/29view/29n7189t.doc) suggestion using edit lists.

Has there been a finalized solution?
