Old news
Some things around here seem to be done on the quiet. Just waiting on someone important to mention it first!

Not sure who is maintaining the below site. They sure do seem to keep on top of all things Foo. They noted to upgrade in
component page last week.

I looked for the "official announcement thread" when I first saw the change. But I was not up to open a "wow, look at that cool new browsing functionality on the official components page"-thread on my own. So now: great work; I especially like the sort function for recently changed components.

Actually, most of us in the know were waiting for some random forum user to open up the discussion. As this is probably going to supersede the old third-party site though, there are a few things happening behind-the-scenes that need to happen sooner, so I took one for the team and posted.

Hmm, good, but some essentials components are missing :ELPlaylist , WSH Panel Mod , Panel Stack Splitter ...

Waiting for a developer autorization, or aren't these components appreciated by the staff ? just curious ...

That is a pretty sweet design. Thanks for the heads-up!

Component developers are to contact Peter for account set up. There is no easy registration right now or anything.

ojdo, sometimes we keep quiet because we like to see how the community responds. We find it amusing. So sue us for playing with community response.

Sometimes we're just waiting for someone who isn't in the core testing crew to mention new features. You're always welcome to bring up new features here in the forums. We like to see it! If there's a new version that has come out, but there's no announcement for it yet, go right ahead and announce it!

Edit: This news has been posted on the main foobar2000.org website for over a week now.

The optional components section of the site has been entirely re-worked; you can now browse components by category as well as download popular third-party components directly from our site.

The best part for people who like to see when new components come out is the ability to bookmark the component page already sorted by date.

...I bet the next surprise will be the long awaited Auto Update Component  Maybe it's already on the new list, and nobody noticed it...

I visited the new component web site on its release day but I didn't dare to communicate my first impression, because I can imagine how much work it was to create its new design and functionality.

My first thought was that I miss a direct download possibility of updated components from this overview site, as it has been before. Especially if this site should become a central contact point for mostly all plugins (as intended) I would consider this as an advantage: I know which components I have, which versions of them and what they do. But maybe that this is a single user's point of view only.

Nevertheless I would appreciate if for example the entries of the column "Last Update" could be hotlinked directly to the corresponding components files without the necessity to go to their subpages at first.

This is HA. Not the Jerry Springer Show.

The thing I like about the new components page is that it is sortable on "Last Update". Very nice.
In theory, there is no difference between theory and practice. In practice there is.

This is not a funny joke. for a second I wished my wish was granted. ;(

If you want more beta-testers it would be a nice feature, as most of the time new foobar(beta)versions are discovered by me (or friends) much later then a topic (as a topic was opened) about a new version was started. Also, these announcement-topics are not very busy, so they drop down very fast in the list when the forum is busy, so missing it is not strange at all.

An RSS feed for foobar's download page and this new component-page would be handy (and should be easy to implement). An autoupdate component is better

Now that there is an official component repository I would like to see an auto-updater component  or even better a component manager with installation/removal features similar to Firefox Addon-Manager... But anyway, its nice to have! Makes staying up-to-date on components a whole lot easier.

It would be nice if we could have RSS feeds for the components. It'd be nice to know which components have been updated / which have been added without having to go to the website everytime.

I would like to know if some senseful quality control is planned. It is selfevident that you won't be able to download banned components. But what is about problematic components?  And what is about components that obviously misuse titleformatting?

By the way: So far i didn't see a new author in the components site. Does it take a little bit time to place their components there  or just nobody asked so far?

Nice to see a new author!

Nobody else? What you are waiting for?

very well designed page!
It would be nice to browse components by author and additionally to have search box. Also it wouldn't hurt to have "author" column.

Ah, right I know that, I was thing more of something like alphabetic list of authors. Or just search box will do, since it would be usefull if you remember author of component, but don't remember the name or if you search for specific function.

From [a href='index.php?act=findpost&pid=663493']The 3rd party components site[/a] topic:
Are there any plans to improve official components site?
What kind of improvements specifically do you have in mind?
Full-quoting makes you scroll past the same junk over and over.

I didn't have any specific improvements in mind, I was asking out of curiosity. It looks like old site is to be closed (big red note on main page, domain redirection), or "replaced" by the official one (even now old links like fb2k.org/show.php?id=142 redirect to their equivalents on new site). So I thought that maybe along with those movements, something bigger is planned (like update notification component).

However, there are a couple of things that could be enhanced. Like ability to upload screenshots of components. Things I see on other plug-in sites (for Miranda, Firefox or Winamp): rating system ("stars") and downloads counter with possibility to sort by weekly/monthly/total downloads. Also components list page should be paginated. That's all for now

Rating system is pointless the way foobar2000 components work. If a component is crashy, it gets banned/deleted/suspended/whatever until the author fixes bugs. If a component is listed, it should either work as expected or have too few users for it to be worth worrying about.
