closed-loop and open-loop in multichannel

i found some facts about multichannel audio coding
"Closed-loop system like Analysis by Synthesis Spatial Audio Coder will be better to use MDCT than Filterbank, but on open-loop sistem like MPEG surround, it will be better to use Filterbank than MDCT"
i tested it with matlab program (calculating the signal to noise ratio) but i still can't figure it out the reason about that facts....
i really need the reason, but in my campus noone can help me about this, so i hope someone can help me here in this forum....
thanks in advance..
