What I said was accurate at the time of posting (September 2022). The first public betas of fb2k 2.0 had playback statistics built in as a core feature making foo_playcount obsolete.

Previous/current behaviour was restored in Beta 18...

I think it should be built-in but Peter decided to leave it as an add-on component.
